Default Trades?: Who Do We Have Left to Trade and For Whom?

It looks like we are down to draft picks and "the kids from Wilkes Barre," unless Niskanen gets packaged in a subsequent deal.

I'll take Kovi for "pennies," maybe a Third Round pick, but would move players and picks for a younger and better "Top 6 Forward," including anyone up from WB (Vitale, Johnson, Sterling, Wallace, Conner, and Tangradi) and any of our D there.

I'd hold onto Jeffrey and Letestu.

If you add Kovalev I doubt we have the cap space to add anyone of a better quality like you're talking about. Then there's still the consideration for next season. You don't want to give away prospects and players for a playoff rental when it's questionable we get Sid back and Geno is done for the year.

So I think if there's anything more than us moving a pick for a player, it gets done in the Offseason

If this is the only trade we get, I am pleased as punch. Shero should be applauded, he made a great trade. One that nets some quality talent at a reasonable price and is for more than just a rental. There was no panic to try and get someone to replace Sid and Geno, which i think is a trap that many GMs would have fallen into. Just a smart move by a smart GM, and one that should be envied by quite a few clubs across the league.

We still have Staal to dangle....

Is it just me or does it seem like Staal's lost a step since his foot injury?

    Maybe it's a fitness issue?

I think he's logging more ice time and trying to do too much, i.e. fill both Sid and Geno's shoes.

If Sid returns--and I really do believe ti is "if"--I wonder if they'll bring back Billy G?

When we were playing great early in the year without Staal, I was thinking the front office would see him as somebody that is replaceable. I figured they would use him as trade bait. Not that I was wanting that but we had a top 5 pk with our top pk specialist out. Being in the spot we are in now he is a must have. No way he gets moved. To me he has played his butt since we have lost Sid and Geno. It looks like he has lost a step maybe because we are all use to watching Sid and Geno create plays. Sid has the ability to stick handle in a phonebooth. Staal can't do that because of the size of stick he uses. Great for defending but terrible for trying to dangle.

I think the front office is seeing some of the baby pens play and it could cost some of the big boys their jobs. I think Sterling has played great since being called up. I have also like the way Nick J has played. When healthy I would like to see Sterling instead of Dupuis play with Sid. I love Talbot but it doesnt seem like he has raised his game since the injuries. I'm pretty sure this is a contract year for him too, which usually means guys step their game up. Just hasn't happened.

During the Heritage Classic, CBC reported that the Av's GM said he wasn't going to move Hejduk. Everyone on the panel seemed surprised.

Honestly, I wouldnt trade any of our prospects this year unless it is a great deal like the Gogo deal. This year is probably gonna be a washout. with no Geno and a banged up Sid, I wouldnt do anything crazy to try to get any rentals...whats the point? I would be fine with giving up a 5th rounder for Kovy and hoping for the best. Other than that, unless something really blows us away, I would stand pat. Milan Hejduk isnt going to make a difference without Sid and Geno, and he will likely cost alot more than Kovy.
The only player in the NHL more overpaid than MAF is Jordan Staal
