    Default Zherdev on waivers

The Flyers put Zherdev on waivers. They guy has talent and can score and is on a one year deal. He's also soft, selfish and not particularly interested in playing defense. Seems like a guy who would quickly end up in Bylsma's doghouse. When he decides he wants to play he can smoke any dman in the league... He's got a $2 Mil cap hit which is much less than Kovy. He might be worth a claim and if he doesn't come to play just put him in the pressbox..

Here are some telling comments from a Philly blogger:
" The Flyers play a heavy fore checking, team first, style of play. Zherdev plays a 'gimme the puck, let me show you what I can do' type of game..... He shows no trust in his teammates in his playing style, and therein lies the major problem. He didn't buy into the system,.."

    I dunno....

Except that he lacks the sniper abilities of Sykora.

Zherdev would be the equal of Shero signing a turd like Satan or trading for another turd like Ponikarovsky. Satan was a soft floater like Zherdev which plays **** poorly with Bylsma's system, hence the failures of guys like Satan and Ponikarovasky. It's why Brian Burke wanted to get rid of Ponikarovsky (if I'm wrong then Xterratu will let me know ), he's too soft and unwilling to backcheck to play his aggressive styled system he'll have every coach employ. I hate that trade the moment it was made. Zherdev is much of the same. Completely wrong guy for this system

I think Souray was on re-entry waivers earlier in the week also.

True about the shot. I'm thinking he plays defense better than half the guys we put out there. But he could be overpriced.

    Michalek
    Martin
    Letang
    Orpik
    Engelland
Niskanen are all better Defensive players than Souray. Sheldon Souray is a liability for sure. Pens have one of the best Defenses in the league this year (when healthy of course). I can count on one finger how many times I've been able to say that my entire life as a Pens fan We'll get even better when we add a Simon Despres possibly next season. I wouldn't take Souray for league minimum, not over any of the players we currently have

For the first time ever we actually have some defensive depth in the organization.

Depres, Strait, Sneep........... I guess you could add Lovejoy too.

You could... :d I'm not particularly a big Lovejoy fan but with time and comfort could play the 5th-6th role.

But yeah, i mean that's deopth sitting on top of what is already our best lineup of Defenseman we've probably ever had. It's a collection of 2 way players. Puck movers that can play in their own end.

wish we could say the same thing about forward depth... The injuries have told me one thing , or better yet helped clarify... WBS is largely comprised of 3rd/4th line ceiling players that cannot fight

Shero can certainly find the 3rd and 4th line guys. That's good because you need them but it would be nice if he could find some top 6 wingers.

Hopefully this Neal kid works out like he suggest.

I agree. I've often found Shero as more of a better judge of grit and character guys, defense than he is in regards to skill talent. I know that he drafted some talent in Ottawa but it wasn't all him doing it. I look at his work with Nashville as a good description of Shero. Gritty, character teams with some talent, strong defensively, never had enough skill.

But I do like James Neal a lot. I do think that Chris Kunitz is a 20/60 player if he can stay healthy an entire season and also play with a healthy center an entire season but if there's been misses with Shero it's definitely been in regards to finding Wing talent. I know that there's a cost but there's always ways to accumulate talent. You can look at our own system and question why we haven't developed one Top 6 winger in Shero's 5 seasons here as an issue but also a way to accumulate and provide talent.

Zherdev is like when you see a woman with a great *** bent over at the bar, and then she turns around and has a real nasty face with missing teeth.
