Default Kevin Goldstein Top 101 Prospects

Now up over at Baseball Prospectus. Chat coming shortly.

4 Pirates on his list, 2 of them ranked much higher than you'll see them elsewhere, and one ranked much lower. Taillon is also a little higher, but he's generally at least in the top 15-20 depending on the source.

After listening to the BP podcast I'm not surprised by his Heredia ranking. His cohost, Jason Parks, might actually be even higher on him.

In his tweet mentioning that the list was up, KG said he already got a complaint about his Tony Sanchez ranking. I think he just questions the ceiling there and doesn't weight his floor as heavily as others.

Biggest surprise after listening to his podcast is Donovan Tate at 101. They were having a legitimate debate about whether he ever makes it past AA in a recent episode. I think they said he has the tools to be better than any of these guys, but about a 0.00003% chance of actually realizing his potential. Parks also seems to dislike Dee Gordon quite a bit, and KG hasn't done much to defend him.

Always nice to see 4 guys up there regardless of ranking.... Should Chapman still be on the list??

Chapman still has rookie status and is still considered a prospect. He's on every prospect list. Funny how just a year ago, everyone was saying he's so overhyped. I think they should work with him on developing a third pitch and make him a starter. But I'm sure I'm in the minority on that.

Ahh... ok. Was curious. Just a matter of not having enough MLB innings?

In any case, to me he's not a prospect. He's a MLB roster guy in the same sense that Pedro, Tabata and Walker are for us going forward

When will the moron Smizik post this on his site? He wouldn't want to paint the Pirate minor league system in a positive light now would he?

This list would mean something to me if the 3 pitchers we have would have thrown at least 1 f'ng pitch as a professional. I wonder how many of the others on this list are in the same situation. Do people make these just because they like to see their name in print?

Sure I have high expectations for our drafted players, but to rank them at this point? Not buying it.

All prospects and all without any major league experience or barely any (Aroldis Champman).

Personally I think these rankings to an extent are about as worthwhile as Power Rankings for teams, the College BCS and their top rankings for hoops, etc... anything that is a ranking. Each team ranks their players differently too...

but owhat this kind of does is give people an idea of who the best players are in the minors and soon to be part of the MLB future. The order of it is and will always be up for question
