Default The Real Fleetwood Mac Thread /AKA/ I Hate Stevie Nicks

Some people might not realise that Fleetwood Mac was a blues band which morphed into a progressive blues rock band-------- before they hit the big time with Stevie Nicks et al. The original band had great guitarists: not only Peter Green, but also Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan.

I was/am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, up until Buckingham & Nicks joined and ruined the band. Here's the good stuff.

I personally know people that would impose some serious bodily harm on you if they saw this thread

I like both versions. I always enjoyed Bare Trees and The Penguin albums and I like Rumours and Fleetwood Mac as well. Both "sides" of the band had misses. I hate the Tusk album, but I like Tango in the night. I like the Mystery to me album, hate Heroes are hard to find.

they really were 2 different, 3 different bands I'd say. bob Welch really sort of starting trying to take them in a rock direction from their blues roots to get some U.S. recognition and they hammered it home getting Buckingham Nicks

Let's go back even farther. I was/am a huge Mayall & Bluesbreakers fan which birthed both Fleetwood Mac and Cream aka Clapton.

Old Mac was a killer sweet sugar blues band. New Mac is just saccharine pop.

Remember, I'm older than most here.

Now compare this HOT shatz to oh let's say Go Your Own Way?

A lot of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac stuff could put me to sleep I'm not a huge blues fan in general. I like when the roots of blues are put into rock or a more pop minded song arrangement, more polished rock, but typical blues bores me. Peter Green era stuff tended to get too bluesy for me. I'd take Go Your Own Way a million times over a generic 12 bar blues song like this 8 days a week ... but like I said, I'm not a huge blues fan. Never saw the draw. Being a musician, we'd jam on the blues tro warm up cause of it's simplicity and it was the very first thing as a band when i was younger that you could all play and sound decent doing because the blues for the most part is easy to play.... and boring.

Plus I enjoy Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing. His style, the finger picking flamenco style that he plays is amazing. Guys like him and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits really never get enough credit for what they have done and it's all done without a pick. It's why playing some Buckingham era Fleetwood Mac songs are hard to replicate perfectly, some of Buckingham's parts are tough to do with a pick so you have to cheat

I have to be in the mood for blues. Like I have been listening to Muddy Waters and he has some great tunes but if you listen to them all back to back you realize they are super forumlized. Yeah thats obvious with the 12 bar blues but even every song starts with a samey lick on guitar.

Been into delta blues to. I think its that Polish that is boring me. I like it real, nasty and in your face. Robert Johnson - Hellhound on my trail is my jam right now.

Even nasty and dirty like Robert Johnson... it's still simple standard blues, now it just sounds like someone using an old tape recorder and crappy radioshack microphone to record it . Make me play left handed and give me some terrible recording equipment and I can turn "We built this city" into this dirty raw song that could win an award for being "artistic" ... wanna be critically acclaimed? make music without a song and production...

Its funny I usually see comments like this on you tube and laugh hard. We come from 2 completely different schools of music. Its all good. It is all subjective after all.
