Default Houston needs a catcher... maybe Doumit?

    "Jenifer Langosch/MLB.com

News that Jason Castro will miss all or most of the season (right knee surgery) now leaves Houston without a starting catcher. At the same time, the Pirates are trying to trade a catcher. Could there be a match with Ryan Doumit and Houston?"

In addition to Langosch's speculation to that effect on Friday , we also have a piece along similar lines from Brian McTaggart, the Astros ' writer for MLB.com. After discussing internal options for Houston, McTaggart brings up three external options whom he sees as the Astros' best chance: free agent Bengie Molina , Doumit, and Phillies backup Brian Schneider . The Astros are operating under some significant financial limitations at this point, and their farm system is one of the weakest in baseball . Both factors would complicate any possible deal for Doumit...."

Another player to keep an eye on is Pirates backup catcher Ryan Doumit, who wants out of Pittsburgh. He's due to make $5.1 million this year, which means the Pirates would have to eat a significant chunk of his contract. Phillies backup catcher Brian Schneider could also be an option.

"I'm sure Ed and his staff are doing all kinds of considerations," Astros manager Brad Mills said. "We've talked about all kinds of things, but right now, we have these five guys in camp, and they're going to work and get the innings. Everything's going to be considered, no doubt....."

One thing we DON'T need to do is to get rid of Doumit just for the sake of getting rid of him. Snyder is not a 162-game catcher by any stretch of the imagination.

We can agree on one thing... that Best Management line was a pretty big overreach although I believe it was used as a public vote of confidence and optimism, it was by far a big stretch to even mention.

Then again, I'm sure you guys would run a business and publically say that your management team were the worst in all of baseball. A morale boosting type!

If you believed that Nutting had the same interest in the fans as Dan Rooney, I might consider you more human and less of a robot

The Rooney family by FAR has more interest in treating the fans right. There are MANY stories of the Rooney family going out of their way to help people in the Burgh.

I have NEVER seen one story like this in regards to the Nutting family!

The Pirates invest a lot of money back into the community. Pirates Charities exists based on that premise.

thats not a fair comparison to either of those 2 men, you dont know either of them personally. For all you know Nutting may cry for fans at night and Rooney may think all fans are **********s, he just has better business sense.

Now obviously i dont think either of those 2 statements are true, but you get my point.
