    Default Nate Adcock Update

In case anyone is interested, Nate Adcock has pitched 8 scoreless innings so far this spring and is still very much in the mix for a bullpen spot in KC. It remains to be seen if the Pirates will get him back.

"Rule 5 Draft pick Nate Adcock made his first start for the Royals and notched three scoreless innings, giving up three hits. Adcock, trying to win a bullpen role, has not allowed a run in eight innings so far.

"It was the first time I'd thrown three innings in a while and the last inning, I started leaving the ball up sometimes but I'll take it, I'm happy with it," Adcock said."

I hate the numbers crunch because I liked where Adcock seemed to be heading. He struggled adjusting to the move from Seattle to Pittsburgh in 2009 but last year put up a nice promising season and is only 22-23. Strong K rate, good BB rate, Low hit rate.

Any idea what the chances are of getting him back?

From what I've read I'd guess he's around a 50/50 proposition to make the team out of camp. Of course he'd have to stay there all season too, and as a righty who has never pitched above A+ ball and doesn't overpower hitters, he's really got his work cut out for him.

The Royals actually took 2 players in the Rule 5 draft. The other is a hard throwing lefty with control issues (Robert Fish). I can't imagine any team spending 2 roster spots on Rule 5 guys, so one is sure to be cut, but Adcock has clearly outperformed Fish so far.

The Pirates gambled leaving this kid off the 40 MR....hopefully this doesn't backfire on them.

Didn't the Royals release Fish? I thought I read where the Yankees got him?

I am not worried about losing Nathan Adcock. At best, he is slightly better than Todd Redmond.

Fish was originally taken by the Yankees in the Rule 5. He was picked up on waivers by the Royals. The Yankees actually took two players in the Rule 5 for some reason and have already gotten rid of both of them. Daniel Turpen passed through waivers and was returned to the Red Sox.

jnn...thx for that update. I knew he'd gotten released by whatever team had drafted him and was too darn lazy to look it up. I hate when I do that.

I don't really understand what the Royals are doing with Adcock right now. He appeared in the first game March 31, didn't appear again until April 8, and hasn't appeared since. I guess they're going to try the "hide him in the bullpen" move, but I'm not really sure why. The upside seems to be back end starter/long reliever. The only reason I could see taking that kind of player is to fill immediate need. The guys you typically see hidden in the pen are guys with big time arms (and big time control issues), not the low-90s pitch to contact righty.

I was looking up his stats yesterday, and saw he hasn't pitched for awhile.

Rule 5 i think really kills players. Look at Bautista the year he got screwed around with.

I know the idea is to give some players a chance when blocked on teams... but I think the whole thing should be changed some .. for the player's sake.

#Royals plan to have RHP Nate Adcock join the rotation and start Saturday against the Cardinals.

If this kid sticks in their rotation and has some success that will be another nail in NH's coffin.

No way can he stick with their rotation. I like I kid and all...and if you go back and look I talked highly about him last year and thought we needed to protect him...but he wont stick in a major league rotation.

I saw Adcock hit Robinson Cano in the head the other day. He was at 93 on that particular fastball, but that's about as hard as he'll throw it. Mostly 91ish in his bullpen appearances. He's not getting any strikeouts, but he's kept the walks down.

Honestly for a kid that hasn't pitched above A+ his WHIP is pretty good in limited opportunities.
