    Default Pirates cut 4 more

Looks like the corner infield spot is Pearce's to lose.

Looks that way. Pearce hasn't played badly, but I thought Andy Marte outplayed him for sure with the bat and is more versatile defensively in the IF. Marte can play multiple positions, Pearce has shown to really only play 1B adequately.

If Karstens is in the ‘pen, the Pirates have two bullpen openings and three relievers left in camp — Chris Leroux, Mike Crotta and Garrett Olson. All three of these relievers would make the club should Karstens have to start the year in the rotation.
I'm guessing that if Karstens is in the pen, then Crotta is sent down.

With the way Dorf is pitching, I'd almost rather see him and Karstens switch roles until he can get things worked out. Karstens looks alot more comfortable pitching from the stretch and holding runners than does Dorf which is affecting his ability to keep the ball down in the zone.

Bothers me that there';s been nothing really said about Dorf's troubles. Nobody has said anything in an interview about anything. They said he reported to camp in far better shape than last season, he had built up arm strength with a ice offseason program. the game the other day I saw him with a 33 K/6BB split at one point and with around 3-5 runs chalked up against him, so control doesnt seem to be an issue as much as perhaps command.

Normally you hear or read something about a player struggling like this and "why". Correia's last outing was a good change for him, Morton's bad last outing was his first of the ST so that can sort of be written off but Dorf's have all been primarily negative

I'm not a big fan of Snyder. He has helped Doumit and Jaramillo. I question Alvarez's durability over the long haul, so I hope Marte sticks around.

Pearce can play 1st very well, can play 3rd and both corner OF positions. He is a work in progress at 3rd but he will get better....no one out works this guy.

Don't count out Crotta....he has a hammer sinker that would work great in the pen.

I like Pearce, and I'm glad he makes the 25-man, but I fear that it's at the expense of Bowker, who is out of options, and I don't think they'll be able to sneak him (Bowker) thru waivers.

Of course, they could also be either working out something or returning Rodriguez, too.

I don't understand the organization's obsession with Pearce.

    Never have.

I will lol at the Smizik brigade's reaction if someone claimed Bowker.

Did they cut Bowker? I must've missed something.

Bowker hasn't been cut yet - I sure hope he makes it.

Looks like Snyder could start the season on the DL and Doumit and Jaramillio would be the catchers. I really hope they don't go with 3 catchers on the 25 man (if Snyder is not on the DL)...

He doesn't get mentioned a lot, but he would have been an interesting choice to replace James McDonald if McDonald isn't ready to go. Crotta hasn't been "stretched out" so it looks like it will be Karstens in that role.
