Default New North Shore street to be named after Noll

New North Shore street to be named after Noll
    By Jeremy Boren, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Saturday, March 26, 2011

Pittsburgh Stadium Authority officials plan to vote Monday on a key piece of funding needed to build a North Shore street named after Steelers Hall-of-Fame coach Chuck Noll.

Chuck Noll Way would connect North Shore Drive and West General Robinson Street, cutting through what is now a parking lot east of Heinz Field.

It would be roughly the length of a city block and run in front of Stage AE, an indoor-outdoor concert hall that opened in December. The Steelers teamed with Columbus-based developer Continental Real Estate Cos. to build the $12 million entertainment venue with help from a $2.5 million state grant.

The Stadium Authority is scheduled to vote on authorizing the use of $882,000 in federal aid. PennDOT would perform the work. The total cost of the construction will be $988,000, said Mary Conturo, executive director of the authority.

Noll coached the Steelers from 1969 to 1991, a span that included four Super Bowl victories. Among the other sports-themed names on the North Shore are Art Rooney Avenue, Mazeroski Way and the Roberto Clemente Bridge.

I'm glad for Noll and finally a person that is being honored for all the right reasons.

They gush over Bellicheat and equate his success as if it was prowesses instead of all the wrong attributes that he has shown and done over the years. There was even talk about naming the Lambardi trophy after him, ha !

I truly mean it when I say, " I'd rather be second best or not win at all if I can't do it with honor and hard work. "

Could anyone for one minute ever believe that Noll or Cowher or even Tomlin could do, would do the underhanded crap Bellicheat has done over the years ?

For sure the Rooneys have placed hiring honorable head coaches ahead of hiring just a good football coach.

    Man I'm glad I'm a Pittsburgh Steeler fan !

Nothing against The Emperor, but why the hell do they need a new street there? Let's put in a big Ferris Wheel next that'll eliminate another 1,000 parking places!

It's getting tougher for tailgating, that's for sure.

I say rename the stadium area Noll's Park at the North Shore. Certainly he deserves more than just a 1 block long Street.

The joys of tailgating are practically gone. With the ridiculous prices to park near tje stadium and parking moving to spread out parking garages around the city and an actual parking lot at station square. Its gone. It truly sucks. Baseball to me should have the intimate feel of the stadium lodged on some block but football starting out in college has always been about the tailgating.

With parking disappearing and getting so expensive on the north shore i cant wait for the connector to be finished. I will be using the **** out of that thing. Couple of bucks and parking in the south hills avoiding most of the traffic and getting droped off a short distance from a stadium works for me
