    Default New Sherlock Holmes movie...

I caught the trailer for the first time on Sunday while watching a game online. As an aficianado of the original Holmes stories, IŽll remain skeptical until I see it. Watching the trailer I noticed 2 inconsistancies already regarding the character of Holmes (I know, IŽm a picky bastard), but also noticed some things that weŽre not picked up on in the former movies and series.
I still think Jeremy Brett played the greatest Holmes ever, even better than Basil Rathbone, in the Grenada UK series.
    Like I said, weŽll see.

BTW, Rachel McAdams is in this one too as Irene Adler.

I gotta be honest, I know almost nothing about movies. The last 3 I downloaded were "A Fistful of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More", and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."
I just saw "Dirty Harry" for the first time a few months ago.

So, I donŽt know much about Guy Ritchie. CouldnŽt even tell you what films heŽs directed. I just hope he doesnŽt **** up the Holmes legacy like IŽm sure is about to happen to the Three Stooges with the upcoming film.

No that's ok, he's just been known for making movies that seem like they're going to be great but end up being boring as hell. lol

Rock N Rolla for one. I was pumped... until I fell asleep like 30 minutes in.

Beerman, I believe you've got it spot on. Brett was a superb Holmes and the series helped a lot in its production values.

There are a few howling problems with the stuff in the trailer, for me. For a start, "Oooh, look - action, adventure and really big explosions!". Not terribly cerebral.

Agree with you on both points.

Brett was just incredible. I was surprised to learn that his efforts in learning the character actually led to his untimely death. It became an obsession for him and really messed him up. But, the results are incomparable.

That was one thing that got to me too. All the action scenes. IŽm glad to see that they are emphasizing Holmes as a prolific boxer/fighter, and donŽt mind seeing that incorporated. But, what got me shaking my head was that a few scenes showed almost nuclear-style explosions in what is supposed to be Victorian England. But, weŽll see i guess.

Plus, "Watson" doesn't look old enough to have become an army surgeon and have served on the Afghan frontier. Still, it might not be too terrible.

BTW, Jeremy Brett was a terribly nice chap. I think the ex might have wondered off with the book I got signed by him.

I agree with Jeremy Brett being the best Holes. I have ALL the series on VHS. I can watch them over and over. Not sure how I feel about this new movie. Actually...I don't like the idea of making it full of action.

Has anyone heard about the Sherlock Holmes movie that will star Will Ferrell and Sasha Baron Cohen. I can deal with that since it would be funny. You can't take that seriously. This new movie seems like they want it to be taken that way. Ahhh hell....I dunno!
