    Default Well who's goin?

Well the home opener just about 48 hours away!!! Time to break out the Bonds jersey, try once again to get that 2 year old wing stain off it (hopeless), ice down the Miller Lite, toss the old lady in the trunk and head to PNC. Who else is going Thursday?

Not me. I can never get the chance. ONE of these times I will make it down for Opening Day but not this year

Looks like the weather forecast has improved drastically for the game. Sunny - 61 degrees at least you and the old lady wont be freezing in the rain like the folks at Wrigley.

I swear that there's some that go down to opening day or used to. Vandelay used to, I think El Sid had mentioned getting some season tickets before. etc..

Speaking of jersey's....I just ordered one of these. This is a real sharp t-shirt.

This is what the injuried players wear along with their black Pirate shorts.

The only openers I ever attended was when I was in grade school and the Bucs played at Forbes Field and--in those days--you were excused from school if you could show a ticket or had a parents' note that he/she had a ticket for you and would meet you at the field.

My grade school, HC Frick, was two blocks from FF and--before Pitt built Ajax, Babbo, and Comet (their circular student dorms), from our class rooms--on the Fifth Forbes side of the building--you could watch the fans walking up to their second and third tier seats on the ramps inside the outer walls of Forbes.

I almost can smell the cooking hotdogs and kielbasa (25 cents and a dime for a cold bottle of pop) from the many Greek owned food stands on Bouquet or Sennott streets. How about the old "Peanut Man," who sold his wares (15 cents or a dime) at the left field bleacher entrance?

Replace the Miller Lite with some Yuengling or at the minimum some Iron City and I may be in.

My memory was some old 4 story gray brick apartments.

A better story is that the space between the school and Fifth Avenue once held a "Girls" school, called Bellefield Vocationl. (Thin of the old Connelly or South High trade high schools for boys.)

It was a rickety old, wooden structure where high school girls went for "Home Ec" education. During a school day, there was a huge fire that burned Bellefield to the ground (with no fatalities).

As a member of our grade school "safety patrol"-- remember the canvas white belts, that went around your waist and over a shoulder--we were let out to "direct traffic" away from the fire, requiring all of our departing students to leave in the opposite direction. *What power!!")

There was a old metal bell (functioning bell) in a cupola atop the school which crashed three floors to the ground, once the fire had weakened all of the supports.

    Memories, memories!!

I've gone to about 3 Opening Days.

It's tough to take off work because I usually take off a couple days around March Madness and a lot of times feel guilty taking off so soon after that again.
