Hopefully McCutchen will slide into the long relief role and Karsten will take the spot in the rotation because I don't think I can bare to watch D McCutchen actually get a start. We would basically be throwing a game away! It would take a miracle.....on a side note, it looks as if Rodriguez will be getting the start at SS tonight instead of Cedeno....at least we have one night!!!

Ironically, I think Rodriquez saw maybe 1 or 2 balls all night playing SS.

Next game Cedeno is in, he'll have enough opps to blow at least 1 of them

Hopefully at some point this year, D'Arnaud gets the call to play short. I like this kid a lot!

I like Jordy Mercer as much as D'Arnaud if not more.

He's at Altoona isn't he? He was drafted a round before D'Arnaud. D'Arnaud made a great play on a line drive and he hits the ball hard.

The cable provider I have shows local sports on quite a few channels and I get the Indians and I also get the Fort Wayne Wizards, which I think is a Padres farm team. If Mercer's as good as D'Arnaud, that's a nice problem to have.

If the Pirates shuffle the rotation just a little by moving Morton up a day (which would mean pitching on normal rest thanks to the off day Monday), then they would have Brad Lincoln lined up with the empty rotation spot. Lincoln's scheduled to make his first start today. His second start would line up for Friday and his third next Wednesday. It all depends on how things go on his rehab starts, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had him take that Wednesday turn.

Obviously the Pirates like D'Arnaud a little better .......hence his promotion to AAA and Mercer going back to AA. But these players could easily switch positions.

I wonder how built up Lincoln is at the moment.

I just saw that he's scheduled for 65 pitches today. His next start would likely be something in the 5 innings/80 pitches range then they'd go from there. That's basically what guys typically do the last start of the spring. It's possible he'd be ready next week, but it's all going to depend on how things look. The Pirates are currently listing Thursday as TBA. If they announce Karstens then I assume they'll be going with him next week as well. If they announce Morton then I'd think they're at least looking at Lincoln.

I would think they will skip Karstens and go with Morton....that's why a 5th starter isn't too important the 1st month of the season.
