    Rockies-Pirates Preview
    STATS LLC

Greg Reynolds hasn't appeared in a major league game in three years. He has some big shoes to fill as he makes his 2011 debut.

Reynolds was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take injured Ubaldo Jimenez's roster spot as the Colorado Rockies continue their four-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night.

Jimenez, who finished third in last season's NL Cy Young Award voting, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a cracked cuticle on his pitching thumb, moving Jorge De La Rosa's start up to Friday and setting up Reynolds' first start since 2008 for Saturday.

De La Rosa lasted just five innings due to a blister -- and after seven relievers were used in Friday night's 14-inning 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh -- Colorado (4-2) may need Reynolds to pitch deep into the game.

"I have a chip on my shoulder," Reynolds, the No. 2 overall pick in 2006, told MLB.com. "I'm looking forward to using that to my advantage. It's been a long couple years. I feel great now, finally healthy. That puts my mind at ease and puts everything else in perspective."

Reynolds went 2-8 with an 8.26 ERA over 13 starts in 2008 -- his only season in the majors.

Pittsburgh (5-3), meanwhile, got another impressive effort out of its bullpen in Friday's win.

The Pirates, whose relievers finished tied for 14th in the NL with a 4.55 ERA last season, lowered their ERA to 2.37 with 11 1/3 scoreless innings after starter Ross Ohlendorf left in the third with a shoulder injury.

"It was a long night for all of us, and you definitely don't want to be the guy that messed up," reliever Chris Resop said. "You just have to do what you can do, and keep going. We all did that."

Outfielder Jose Tabata's walk-off double gave Pittsburgh its first victory at PNC Park after losing its home opener 7-1 on Thursday night.

Tabata, whose 104 hits since the 2010 All-Star break are the most in the NL, also hit his first home run of the season and finished 2 for 6. He has hit safely in all nine career games against Colorado.

After a forgettable 2010 campaign in which he went 2-12 with a 7.57 ERA, Charlie Morton (1-0, 1.50) allowed three hits and five walks in six innings and surrendered one run en route to a 4-3 win at St. Louis on Monday.

"I can't really pinpoint one thing that's made me more successful," said Morton, who did not get a decision in his lone start against the Rockies in 2009. "I learned a lot last year from going through a lot of bad outings."

Colorado first baseman Ty Wigginton, who went 1 for 5 Friday and is hitting .222, is the only current Rockies player to have homered off Morton.

Carlos Gonzalez, last year's NL batting champion with a .336 average, had his 2011 batting average drop 99 points to .269 after going 0 for 7 with three strikeouts Friday.

Reading the last few posts in the GDT last night about the popcorn left me wondering about something... Does PNC Park allow folks to take-in their own food? I think it's a terrible idea from the aspect of a young kid...

This is Mo Egger, a local sportscaster here in Cincy talking about the subject, and I found it fairly funny... The guy he is talking about, Lance, is also a sportscaster at the same station...

While he is talking about GABP, the concept remains league-wide...

Hope I didn't jinx Chuck Morton by activating him for my fantasy roster. I had him for the last game but he was on the bench

After your comment a few days ago, I can't help but notice all the empty seats behind the plate...
