    Default Why in the World?

....would Kevin Correia pitch the ninth inning tonight? I'm confused....can someone answer this question for me. I didn't get the chance to watch the game tonight and I see that Correia pitched one inning.....Please help me figure this one out!

Probably because the bullpen was burnt up from the 14 inning game the night before. Saw something where Meek is unavailable.

He was due to throw a (bullpen) side session anyway.

This is correct. All starters throw side sessions (bullpens) between starts. Corriea's 1 inning and warm up before coming into the game were basically used as his side session. This helped out the bullpen that was spent the other night in the 14 inning game.

I'm always surprised that this doesn't happen more often.

I'm not complaining about it but you never really see it and I wasn't sure if ESPN had it wrong until I went to MLB and they had the same stats. I was just surprised that's all!

Only draw back is that the pitcher can not be extended too much.

Hurdle said today that if the Bucs had tied it in the 9th, he would have sent Correia back out for one more, then Hanrahan.

Correia said that warming up and throwing the inning was less than he would have done in his session, anyway.

But yes, AkronSteel, it is unusual.
