i thought he was so close to really breaking out last year, until he was injured. I really dont think that he is going to be any good coming off he bench though, he needs to get some time in at the plate

Granted... He struck-out today at his only plate appearance.

    He's only had 6 "at-bats" with 2 hits for a .333 avg....

Yea, he started with a 2-0 count today and ended-up striking out, but Street was really pitching well to close the game out for Colorado... Hell, everyone thought it should'a been a ball and a walk after the full count... Pearce was jumping up and down, and Hurdle even argued....

    ... Am I missing something?....

He went up there looking for the walk.

Last night he hit into the DP to end the game.

The guy has been given so many chances and has produced zip.

I'm not just looking at this season.

Well... I will definitely not argue because your knowledge is definitely greater than mine...

But it was the top of the inning, the count went to 3-0 before going full, we needed baserunners, and Street was pitching extremely well to start the inning....

Even the Colorado announcers said he got "robbed" with the pitch out and below the knees...

Here's what I posted in the GDT, as I watched the entire game...

Street in on the mound now....

Pearce at the plate for the Bucs.....

    2-0 count.

    3-0.

    3-1.

3-2... full count... Pearce thought it was a ball....

Strikeout... Pearce is ****ed... crappy call.....
... As said, you guys know more than me... But he should'a been on base... Not that it would have mattered because Bowker struck-out, then Tabata grounded to short that would have been an easy DP.... Who knows....

If you look at the pitchfx, strikes 2 & 3 to Pearce were WELL off the plate. He was justified in being ****ed off, because he got JOBBED.

Note: This is not to say he shouldn't have made adjustments, knowing the ump was calling them 4-6 inches off the ****ing plate, but there's also only so much you can do there.

P.S. The "garbage" statement is a little harsh, don'tcha think? Sheesh.

We had seats behind home and the last two pitches that were called strikes seemed to be off the plate to me.

... They were out of the little "strike box" that they put-up on tv for review as well....

There really wasn't an adjustment he could make. Strike two was a good few inches off and he took it for a strike. Strike three was actually even further outside. It was a pitch you really just can't swing at. The Rockies announcers even acknowledged that both pitches clearly weren't strikes.

Yep. Hence the comment "...but there's also only so much you can do there."

There was NO WAY Steve was gonna hit those. Foul 'em off? maybe. Prolly not.

You know what else the Rockies announcers acknowleged, that a guy allegedly known for power should not be up there with his bat on his shoulder in the bottom of the ninth.

Sure maybe all he could have done is fouled them off, but you know what that does?
It keeps you at the plate and extends the at bat.
You might also be able to reach out there a slap a single like Jason Giambi did a few innings earlier.

Those strike zone indicators on tv are fine for the woulda, coulda, shoulda arguments. But in reality they are useless, because the umpires aren't using them. The umpires determine the strike zone, not Root sports.

Can anyone tell me the last time Pearce contributed anything worthwhile?

Both pitches were a bit outside according to that K zone thingy on the Rockies broadcast. However, when they call a strike on the 3-1 pitch and the next pitch is **** near the exact same thing you can't stand there with the bat on your shoulder and expect to get a different call.

Striking out looking drives me nuts.

The Rockies announcer did call them "Greg Maddox strikes". lol

That strike zone shows that the umpires call strikes according to the pitcher's and batter's reputation and their impatience and prejudice at of the moment.................Greg Maddux strikes!
