Default Pirates manager Hurdle juggles lineup

    Pirates manager Hurdle juggles lineup
    Thursday, April 14, 2011
    By Colin Dunlap, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has made a change in the heart of the batting order for tonight's game against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park, as the club is mired in a three-game losing streak, has lost four or their past five games and, at 5-6, is below the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Normal third baseman Pedro Alvarez --- who is 3 of his last 19 and has not hit a home run this season --- is getting the night off, and Steve Pearce will make his first start at third base in the big leagues and bat fifth.

Also, the normal No. 4 hitter, first baseman Lyle Overbay (hitting .238), has been shifted to the sixth spot and Matt Diaz, who will play right field, is hitting clean up in tonight's lineup.

In addition, Chris Snyder, the Pirates' catcher who started the season on the 15-day disabled list with a back injury, is back with the club and will start tonight and bat seventh.

Please don't let a lot of balls go to Pearce. With maholm on the mound, I hope most get pulled the other way.

Wolf is a lefty, so there's an added explanation for playing Pearce

Hope pedro turns it around. Saw him a few games in Bradenton, and he looked absolutely lost.

Yea that's kind of scary. I'm still not convinced that he wasn't called up because of the pressure of the losing streak.

Just saw tweeted that Pedro has 2 Homers off of Wolf in limited AB's.

Looks like this manager ignores matchups just like the last one

2 homers, 6 AB;s, .500 Batting Avaerage against Wolf. might be the only lefty he's hit off and of course he's sitting.

Pearce has also hit Wold well. In 15 AB's he has 2 homers and 2 doubles off of Wolf to go with a .357 Batting Average

Maybe he's just wanting to give Alvarez the night off and this is the only day that makes sense because Pearce has at least hit well against him as well.
