Fireworks misfire at Reds game injures Rozzi's technician
    6:40 PM, Apr. 17, 2011

DOWNTOWN – A fireworks misfire during Sunday’s Pirates/Reds game sent a technician for Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks to University Hospital with injuries.

The technician, whose name was not released Sunday, suffered burns after a device unexpectedly released fireworks during the eighth inning.

“At this point in time we don’t know the reason the device went off,” said Dustin Purvis, director of plant operations for Symmes Township-based Rozzi’s. “At no time whatsoever was anyone in the public at risk. Safety is our number one concern at all times.”

Purvis said he was not aware of any incidents involving injuries caused by fireworks during Reds games.

Rozzi’s plans to investigate the incident along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office on Monday, Purvis said.

Apparently there was a problem after the fireworks were loaded after Jay Bruce's HR in the 7th inning (they go off after each HR), and exploded in the 8th inning when the Pirates were at bat.... They are special fireworks that are pre-loaded and fired from a remote location in the press box.

The worker remains in critical condition as of 5pm today....
