    Default Question for the Tavern

Brandon Wood has DFA'd. It has been rumored that Pittsburgh could be a landing spot for him. Does anybody think he's worth bringing in? Can Hurdle and company fix this kid enough for him to realize his once massive potential? I'm intrigued, but at the same time, Angel prospects seem to always be over hyped.

Yes the angels prospects are overhyped...but the kid has always had good talent. I dont see how he would fit, though, honestly.

I've seen the Angels play a lot, and I just don't think he's a major league hitter. Just way too much swing and miss and no discipline. Even in his good AAA seasons he was posting MLEs that had his OBP below .300. The 153/13 K/BB ratio for his MLB career is insane.

I think of Wood as a modern day Chad Hermansen. The warning signs were always there, but people were always tantalized by the combination of age and power.

How could he be worse than Rodriguez? What upside does Rodriguez have?

His stats look eerily like Bixler's, except BB had a higher BA (and NO HRs).

    Did Bixler hang on anywhere?

And is that the ex Pirate Kelly on the Tigers roster?

The more I think of it, I like the idea of taking a flyer on this guy. I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed either way, but I think this kid could excel in the right place.

Wood is not good. Not good at all. [original comment redacted as being unnecessarily cruel ]

Yes, JRod is a better option at this point in time. Hell, even 'Bones or I might be better with the stick than Wood!

And, before anyone asks - NO, I was NOT one of the people who "loved" him, or even suggested "taking a flyer" on him.
