    Doubt he's going anywhere.

But Owens will be 1st up (other than injury replacements), barring a complete meltdown...

McDonald at worst gets put on DL...he's a good pitching talent and isn't goin' anywhere.

McDonald basically had no command of anything but his fastball. The fact he got very little work in spring training shows. He'll be fine in time.

Rudy Owens probably deserves the first chance. But I agree with Bennie, James isn't going anywhere. But, if Maholm keeps pitching the way he has ,something needs to be done there. I have absolutely no confidence in him at all. We should have shipped him out about the same time we said goodbye to Duke.My guess is that NH tried to trade him over the winter and nobody wanted him . Best case scenarior would be to tell Paul that he has a sore arm , put him on the DL ... bring him back right before the trade deadline and hope like hell he has a couple good outings so somebody would want him for the stretch run.

    @ Buzzman:
Maholm got screwed out of wins in his first two starts.

He is a decent middle-of-the-rotation pitcher. He is also pretty ****ed dependable, as far as giving you plenty of innings and a decent chance for the team to win - or at least be in a position to win - more often than not.

Do I love the guy? No. Do I think we have bigger problems than Pauly? Yes.
Do I think Maholm will be around in 2012? Probably not.

To be fair... Everyone on the florida trip pitched poorly. Maholm looked good in his other starts. Morton looked good in hos other starts. Mcdonald has looked terrible in every game hes pit hed this year. Even his ST games he didnt look good.

Something is wrong with him. Maholm looks fine. Just a rough outting like everyone had agaonst florida

Yes Kip, you're right , Maholm and everyone else looked bad in Florida.. But, maybe after Paul gets roughed up 8 out of his next 10 outings you'll start to see what I mean . Yes, he's an innings eater ....that's about it as far as I'm concerned. We would do better without him

This is Maholm's last year in Pittsburgh because there is no way that option gets picked up. Maybe move him to the bullpen bring up Owens and put him in Maholm's spot.

Not a snowball's chance in Hell, amigo. For one thing, what would that do to any trade value he might have?

I am not sure that McDonald didn't rush himself back from his injury...plus I dont think he pitched enough in ST. His stuff is pretty good/dynamic so I think he'll be ok in time. Really this season is one where we want to get people clicking...and get them their work in and McDonald will get that shot.

Maholm is fine...he is what he is...he'll likely be replaced by a much cheaper Owens next season...possibly Wilson too if he continues to progress.

Yeah I dont understand this idea. His ERA and WHIP are both STILL currently better than his career numbers...and you subtract that one game and he's pitched well...if the Pirates get a season line of 4.30 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 180 IP, 120-130K's out of Maholm they will be happy and will likely be able to get something for him at the deadline.
