Default NOOK Color gets much better

I had purchased a NOOK Color from Barnes and Noble at christmas time and have loved it. Its first ver of the software had a few apps, nothing fancy, chess, soduku and pandora music. Also a basic internet browser, and i pretty much used it solely for reading and it was more than i could ask for.

The other day i downloaded the major update for the android software. Totally blown away by the added flash support, the new app software library, and some other basic improvements it added. It really has made this a WIFI only tablet for budget minded people its still only $249, and i love the 7" touch screen, the tiny but very audible speaker and the versatility it gives me as a toy, internet browser, and reader all in one.

The 2 drawbacks that stick out to me personally are the somewhat limited battery life between charges and a lot of the apps cost money, but i did purchase angry birds and a very well done casino game app. 2 thumbs up, if you were thinking about getting one i would definitely recommend it.

I've been contemplating getting the Nook so I can read books without carrying them around with me when I travel. Since I go for 2 weeks at a time, space in my bags is at a premium... Was gonna get the "black/white" version, though because it's cheaper... What are the advantages to the color version?

... I got one for my wife at Christmas, but if I knew she was gonna leave me a week later, I'dve kept it for myself...

if you are just looking to just read books definitely get the black and white, the battery charges last for a **** long time and the screen is very easy to read in any light. the 3g version will let you purchase books online without a subscription for data access. The color has all the bells and whistles, you can load it up with mp3s pictures and videos, connect to wifi hot spots and browse the web, buy books, and download apps. Color has a 7 inch full color touch screen while the black and white doesnt. The color doesnt have anywhere near the power and versatility of an I-pad or equivalent tablet but if you love to read and enjoy some neat bells and whistles the color is a great buy at the price. If you just like to read and have your laptop for internet music and games then i would save the cash and get a black and white version. its a full $100 cheaper. Definitely hit up a barnes and noble to play with a store model, its fully functional and will let you get a feel for which one you would like, and surprisingly the employees actually know about the product (i know i was shocked too).

My wife has the nook b&w. She likes it but I noticed she was reading on the iphone and I asked why and she said she could read the format the book was in so thats kinda weak. With the color you could have had android a year ago. Its the same guts as some of the phones. As usual the hacked is probably better than the official ****.

    How much do ebooks cost?

There is a b&w nook at target for $114.00.

Would this be a good thing for a Mother's Day gift?

Depends on the mom. There are a lot of free classics to read but bare in mind that new ebooks are just as expensive as paper. Not calling your mom and old dog but you know they dont like new tricks. Would figure in a gift card to go with it.

The biggest price advantage is on new release books that you can usually only find in hardcover for $28 bucks. They are usually available in ebook format between $9.99 and $14.99. I read a wide range of books and authors and ive found that you can usually save a buck or 2 on ebooks compared to actual paper books.

You should save a lot of money on the ebooks! No paper manufacturing, just entering electronically one time.
