    Default Shortstop controversy?

Brandon Wood is getting another start at short today. Could this be the beginning of a controversy on who the starter is? I've liked what I've seen of Wood both at the plate and in the field and would like to see more. Cedeno has shown what he is capable of over the last several years and feel he has peaked. I had higher hopes for him, but his focus seems to be an issue for him. Wood has gotten 450 at bats or so spread out over several years. Hopefully, what he needs is a chance to settle in as a regular and get comfortable. We'll see how it plays out.

I imagine a shortstop controversy is like a quarterback controversy.

It's not that you have two good quarterbacks, it's that you don't have one good quarterback.

I am pulling hard for Wood to do well. He has contributed to some wins so far. I don't see some pathetic loser at the plate with no clue how to hit the ball as he was made to seem like.

The reasonable thing to do is leave space cadet Cedeno as the starter and spot Wood at 3B and SS and maybe even at 1B and see if he can start to hit.

However, I am not in favor of the reasonable thing here. Wood has a great pedigree at a position of need. His there ever been a more exciting waiver claim than this? I've been checking the pregame lineup each day looking for his name - he's starting again today. As a fan, I am "psyched" for our SS of the future!

Not sure I agree. Pedro needs to play every **** day. If he's not going to progress, maybe he needs to spend more time in Indy. Wood playing 3rd is not in our best interest. Let him play an extended period at SS and evaluate whether he would be an upgrade to Cedeno or not.

Wood was awful at SS with LAA. It's believed he lacks the range to really play the position. Maybe he can change that, who knows. What I do know is he's looked alright at the plate since we picked him up, a lot better than one of the worst players in MLB history, like he was hyped up to be. If he can hit the ball, I don't really care what kind of D he plays, sit Ronny's *** down.

Yes he can. For being a shortstop, he's actually looks a lot more like a first baseman.

I thought it was Wood's bat rather than his Defense that was the issue?

I think this issue is over in Cedeño's favor for now!

That was my interpretation as well.

Call me silly, but Cedeno's never had any competition since he's been here. I'm hunch-ing that his 'focus' will improve now that he's got someone fighting him for playing time.

I like their being some competition here, and think if Wood continues or Cedeno becomes consistent (on the good side) that I'll be happy with either of them.

    Nice pickup Neil.
