The Power's defense allowed the offense to win the game.

Power quarterback Bernard Morris' 31-yard touchdown pass to Jason Willis with 14 seconds left gave the team a 54-48 victory against the San Jose SaberCats in front of 7,333 Saturday night at Consol Energy Center.

The Power fumbled snaps, threw interceptions and missed extra points, but its defense forced two consecutive turnovers on downs in the fourth quarter and scored when Morris hit Mike Washington for an 18-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes left that made the score 48-46, San Jose. On the two-point conversion attempt, Morris' pass to Washington fell incomplete.

The Power's onside kick attempt ricocheted off a SaberCats special teams player, but the SaberCats recovered on the Power 4-yard line. The Power forced another turnover on downs and got the ball back with 41 seconds left on its own 1-yard line.

On third-and-10, Morris found Willis by himself on the right side of the field. Morris then hit 6-foot-6 Lonnell Dewalt, a former receiver who recently converted to linebacker, for the two-point conversion.

SaberCats quarterback Mark Grieb's pass to Burl Toler was complete, but Toler was tackled short of the end zone.

The Power improved to 5-4, while the SaberCats fell to 5-4.

In the third quarter, Morris fumbled a snap, a problem for the Power in the game, and the SaberCats recovered. They took advantage with Chad Cook's 3-yard touchdown run and led 41-33.

Facing fourth-and-5 on the SaberCats' 9-yard line, Dewalt, who has recently played linebacker, entered the game as a wideout and caught a touchdown pass to bring the Power within one, 41-40, with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter.

On the SaberCats' next drive, Grieb threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Burl Toler, and San Jose led 48-40 with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Power started a drive, but Morris threw an interception to Eddie Moten early in the fourth quarter.

The Power took an early 14-0 lead, capitalizing on Josh Lay's interception of Mark Grieb's pass in the end zone, but its mistakes gave the lead back. After the SaberCats pulled within a touchdown on Grieb's pass to Ben Nelson, Morris threw an interception, and the SaberCats scored from the 5-yard line to tie the game. Morris fumbled the next snap he took and San Jose recovered, and Grieb's 6-yard pass to James Roe put the SaberCats ahead 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Morris' 14-yard touchdown pass to Jason Willis pulled the Power within one, but Paul Edinger missed the extra point. Grieb hit Roe again for a touchdown pass, but SaberCats kicker Juan Gamboa also missed the extra point, and the SaberCats led 27-20.

SaberCats defensive back Eddie Moten almost intercepted Morris' pass to Mike Washington, but only tipped it up, and the ball floated into Washington's hands in the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown. Edinger again missed the extra point, and the Power trailed 27-26.

Cook scored on a 2-yard run and the SaberCats led 34-26, but the SaberCats failed to recover an onside kick and the Power started with first and goal on San Jose's 6-yard line. Morris hit Washington from 4 yards out and the Power went into halftime trailing 34-33.
