    Default Ace

Not that he's achieved that status, but tonight's what an Ace does.

    Stops a losing streak.

    Cruises on minimal pitches.

Makes Opponents look clueless and/or helpless.

Way to go Charlie...keep up the good stuff.

Tonight was a good game against a good lineup. Congrats to him.

ESPN noted that 4 pitchers have 2 complete games with 1 ER or fewer so far this season: Jaime Garcia, James Shields, Jered Weaver, and Charlie Morton. Both of Morton's were against the Reds at a great hitters park in GAB.

My God, Charlie Morton had the Reds baffled tonight. That sinker is for real. A totally different approach than last year... Vey uplifting!

I have three of the 4 on my fantasy team. HAHAHA.

Anyways, Morton has done well...hopefully this isn't a mirage.

That's twice now he's owned the Reds, who are a pretty good lineup. If only we could get him to the mound in every game of the Milwaukee series'.

That's when I'll buy our pitchers a little bit more, when we stopped getting humiliated by the Brewers lineup. I still buy Charlie's turnaround, though. Makes me very angry when I think about the way Kerrigan screwed him up last year, along with Lincoln, and whoever else. A guy with his kind of stuff, you knew he was better than the abysmal numbers.

It is definitely good to see, but the Reds are not what they were last season... At least not up till now...

They are 1-5 vs Pirates this year after going 10-6 vs Pirates last year.
This year: 3-9 vs Pittsburgh/Arizona...outscored by 18 runs.
Last year: 15-8 vs Pittsburgh/Arizona...outscored them by 47 runs.
Jonny Gomes: 19 RBI in last 147 plate appearances.
Votto: 18 games and 84 plate appearances without a home run.

The Reds are still the #2 scoring offense in the majors. Their 5.18 runs per game trails on the Yankees at 5.19. Had they scored even 1 more run against Morton they would be in first.

Oh, I'm not disputing their effectiveness whatsoever... Afterall, they lead the division (or at least they did until we beat them yesterday) and have a +58 run differential on us... But they aren't the dangerous team that they were last season, that's all, and they aren't winning against the teams that they should in all probability beat... At the start of June last season, Gomes was tied for 1st in the NL for RBI's but only has 19 this year. Votto obviously is the reigning MVP but is in the midst of his longest "homer-less" streak of his career, and Scott Rolen (17 games and 67 plate appearances since his last HR) was a seriously clutch player for them... This year, they are just doing it differently and in a less impressive fashion than last year.

Of course, looking up at them from further down in the division sorta negates all of it...

... Either way, Morton's two outings against them was definitely impressive... I hope to see more of the same in the remaining 9 games against them, and against the rest of the opposition as well.
