    Default Monkey Butt

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle needs to recognize that he has a whole herd/pack/whatever of monkeys on his back. It's not of his doing. They came with the uniform. They are real however, and it's time that Mr. Hurdle performed a reality check and acknowledged that he, and every member of the Pirate family, are carrying these creatures around.

The first monkey is the .500 thing. Clint says, "Not anything that we think about." "Not a concern to us." "We're here to win championships." Duh! Hey, Clint, you're not winning Jack-diddly without first breaking even. Besides, every blessed member of your fan base wants it - really wants it. It's time to give the paying customers what they want and at least fess up that a meager .500 is somewhere on the Pirates' wish list.

Monkey number two is that Brew Crew thing. "Just another game" says Mr. Hurdle despite the fact that the Buccos have been Milwaukee's personal pinata for years. I don't have the stats at my disposal, but the Pirates just fold up and die against the Brewers, and it doesn't seem to matter where the game is played. Hey, Clint, you really do need to do something about this, and simply acknowledging the problem may be a decent starting point.

Finally we come to monkey number three. Today on ESPN radio one of my least favorite commentators, Colin Cowherd, had the following to say (and I paraphrase with quotes):

"Tonight I'm picking the Tigers over the Pirates. Every year when we get to inter-league play, I simply look for the Pirates and pick the other guy. It's a lock."

    Another invisible monkey, Clint?

Here's some advice for you Mr. Hurdle: at Alcoholics Anonymous they have a saying that you cannot seek a cure until you acknowledge that there is a problem. Words for everyone in the Pirate family to live by.

The whole Pirates family needs to think about the game and not the win/loss record!

Having said that ...............learn to win and achieve .500 and then find a way to win a couple more.

It seems to be a developing situation.
Remember, that which hath not killed you, will try again...................

Looking at the overall interleague records, it's hard to argue with the man...but he just annoys me...so after him saying that today, and how the game went tonight, I wanna say

hey Colin...what's the opposite of 'above me'?

10-1 is a good way to start shutting that blowhard up. He really wants to be Marriotti.

I think the Bucs can beat them 10-1 on Friday!
