    Default Stat of the day

    Jose Bautista's OPS+ this year is 262......

    A little reference....

Babe Ruth's best year was a 256. Barry Bonds was a 268 which is the all time best.

Pedro Alvarez this year is a 63.

Darn, I always confuse Babe and Jose!

Hey, the Bucs "f***** up" and there's nothing we can do about it. Thank God that Jose is in the other league or it really could be painful.

Jose would still be floundering if he were here. Braves fans are starting to say this stuff about Morton now according to my family in the Atlanta area.

I just don't get the JBaut stuff...he just never showed anything when he was here. If you're going to say we screwed the pooch in letting him go, you should be saying the same thing about the 22 GM's that let him pass through the waiver wire before the Jays got him.

He just didn't have it when he was here...period.

I don't get the jab at Pedro. Would you rather have Pedro 3 years from now, or whatever is left of Jose Bautista? How was Jose Bautista at 24 years old?

.... Copy & paste is always your friend, as we saw the same thing in your initial post (minus the highlight that we all read to begin with).... .... But you still didn't address the question about the Pedro jab....

Please can we forget about Bautista. He was a rule 5 pick that we resigned after he left the first time. He showed flashes when he was here but was extremely inconsistent. Good for him that he either A. Figured it out or B. Ran into a really good "cocktail". Either way, who cares. It's like chastising the Rooney family for letting Johnny Unitas go.

It wasn't a jab at anyone ....I used the players mentioned as a reference of how good Bautista is playing.

Mixed emotions here: I wish the organization had alot more patience with JB. But then again, he is playing for Shakers Quakers in our Fantasy League !

I will say this much, Jose is not taking steroids to hit the way that he is. You cant take steroids to hit the ball like this. You cant take steroids to make you hit the ball...I know we like to talk about how steroids do this and that, but listen, the fact is that yes he may hit more HRs on roids, but Jose has completely changed as an all around hitter...steroids or not he deserves some credit for that.

I actually think my opinion about the Bautista situation is changing. I actually think my opinion is different from my last post above...I mean the more I think about it...last year he hit all those HR but had less than 40 RBI...or the equivalent of what he did here in 2007.

If anything, Bautista's production should be looked at as a positive for Pedro's situation. If a mediocre guy like Bautista can figure out how to get the bat on the ball and then let his power do the rest, why can't Pedro?

This kind of turnaround for a player just goes to show you what can happen if you find that right approach.

The same people that are all over Pedro, are the ones that absolutely lambasted Bautista when he was here. Bautista is the poster boy of why you want to be certain a guy don't have it before you ship him out and he succeeds somewhere else. His change of fortune is unprecedented in baseball. A player don't turn it around that dramatically so late. But still, NH has said so himself, that he wants to provide opportunities here and not have this very thing happen. So before you guys cast Pedro to the scrap heap, just remember what happened for JB, and Pedro has a much better pedigree.
