    Default Steve Pearce

He is playing a good game on both offense and defense. Is he forcing his way into the starting lineup?

I know I am impressed with the way he has been playing. It looks like it all may be coming together for him.

Was there an update on how minor his injury was today? He seems to have a knack for finding the worst times to get hurt. It looked like he might be winning some playing time last year right before he went down too.

The only thing I heard, was Pearce saying he didn't expect to miss more than a couple of games.

... All I heard is that it's a "calf injury".....

According to Langosch, both Doumit and Pearce are headed for the DL. 2 roster moves coming up. Dusty Brown and Josh Harrison?

Having Dusty Brown be one of the guys rather than Jaramillo will require a 40 man move. It's probably the right call, but it does leave open the question of why Jaramillo is even on the 40 man. If they call up Dusty Brown then I wouldn't be surprised if the other move is Andy Marte. Future 40 man considerations. You can just DFA Marte again when Alvarez or Pearce is ready. If they went with Harrison they'd have to find another guy to cut.

I'd call up Jaramillo and Harrison...no 40 man move needed other than adding Harrison.

Charlie at BD had this to say in quoting a tweet from Biertempfel:

"Rob Biertempfel tweets that the Pirates could place Steve Pearce on the DL, move Ross Ohlendorf to the 60-day DL, and give Pearce's roster spot to Andy Marte.

Marte is currently batting .191 at Indianapolis, so the Bucs would really be scraping the bottom of the barrel here. He would, however, supplant Brandon Wood as the latest 2006 top prospect to join the Pirates, following Lastings Milledge, Andy LaRoche, and Jeff Clement (Scott Olsen missed the boat somehow). Can Joel Guzman, Jeremy Hermida and Anthony Reyes be far behind?"

Turns out Jaramillo injured his elbow getting hit by a foul ball almost two weeks ago and is currently not able to catch. I guess Brown is the only option. You could still call up Harrison if Ohlendorf hits the 60 day and work from there, though.

Sounds like Harrison will be called up. At least that's what his coach at Cincinnati says:

He caught Thursday and Friday....so he can't be hurt too bad.
