    Default Matt Curry to Altoona

Looks like the Pirates have promoted Curry to Altoona....nothing official yet but this appears to be true.

I have been calling for this for over a month. Guess I am not crazy after all.

This is a very aggressive promotion….very out of character for the organization.

PFIV, I am sorry, but I just dont get he could do at A+ really. He's already played at 2 of the 3 A-Ball teams. And here are his numbers: 352 ABs, 29 2B, 3 3B, 16 HR, 74 BB, 76 K...that and a line of .327/.446/.563/1.008.

He's hitting for average. He's getting on base. He's hitting for power. And the ultimate? He's shown the plate discipline that the organization looks for. He has checked off the markers on the A-Ball list. Add to that a good 1B glove? There is nothing else he could prove.

Curry is an advanced hitter with advanced hitter mentality and his peripherals show the signs of a top 10 prospect. At his age and looking at the organization as it is constituted right now? The move to AA makes the MOST sense. He will spend the rest of the season there and probably start there next year. He's probably still 2 years away...but Curry is legit.

He'll take over for career minor-leaguer Miles Durham who is hitting .204. It appears that Curry's strong season dovetails nicely with an organizational need.

Matt Hague is now on the clock - there's not much of a premium on triple-A first-baseman with no power.

He was definitely a man among boys in the Sally.

I know you dont like the move PFIV. And I have always respected your opinion on prospects. The fact of the matter is, though, that he has crossed off everything on the "to do" list for A-Ball players.

Hague could be a decent utility player. He can play the OF, 3B, and 1B.

Jose Hernandez who is an organizational scrub and Matt Curry have one thing in common now…they are the only 2 players that I can think of that have skipped a level under KS. It’s not that I don’t like the move it’s that I’m surprised.

It is nice to know that NH was able to go out and draft a legit power bat without having to spend a first round pick. Other organizations seem to be able to do this, but the Pirates haven't.
