Default Scott Kazmir worth a shot?

With the Angels straight up releasing Kazmir, and his salary paid up for the year, would it be worth the buccos grabbing him and giving him some time to see whats up? Maybe Searage can work some magic on him. He is only 27. Send him and Indy Indians uni!

If we still had Kip Wells and Josh Fogg in our rotation then yes.

Starting Pitching is the least of our issues.

Is he converting to a hitter, if so yes. If you mean as a SP, then no way.

NO. He's pulled a total Steve Blass and lost everything he ever had. The Angels have a good pitching program, there's nothing here that can change his fortunes. Plus, he's way too expensive to keep after this year.

Was wondering this very question myself.

Do we have any room for him at Indy?

Always liked the guy, but have no idea what his faltering is...mechanics, mental, arm's gone...anyone have any ideas?

Sign him, if his salary is paid? Let's see what he can do.

    Can you say "Ryan Vogelsong?"

In the Angels AAA system, his ERA was 17+. This year alone, in 1 2/3 innings pitched on the MLB team, he already amassed 5 er.

Heard on Sirius/XM that it might be more mental (took a big payday and was no longer hungry). Now if we can sign him to a minor league deal, yes. Put him in AAA and see what he can do. if he's not willing to take a minor league deal, then no thanks.

Kazmir has been horrible since 2009. His K rate went down, Walk rate is way up. Teams haven't really hit him hard. is H/9 isn't really off. The BAA is a little higher but it's not "bad" high.

Kazmir can't throw strikes. I'd acquire him for AAA and see if he can be rehabbed but wouldn't want him near the MLB team until he proved at AAA that he wasn't dreadful. His age is the most intriguing part.

27 years old. I'd sign him to a minor league deal (maybe throw in some incentives). It seemed like if he has to work for his paycheck, he provides results. His time in Tampa was good. It's just when he got the big payday, he got a little fulll and lost his edge.

    No.

His arm is a noodle. A wet noodle.

I wonder if he could work his way back mentally by starting him in A in the bullpen and go from there. Treat him like a new draft pick so to speak. Guys like him have to be rebuilt mentally from the ground up. Take the "Billy Madison" approach. Start him at the lowest level and see what happens.

If it is a control issue why not see if it can be fixed?

    At AAA, of course.

No team is gonna claim him off waivers (and let LAA off the hook for that contract), so he'll become a FA. We would then have to sign him as a FA, and get him to agree to go to AAA or AA and work his problems out there. Whoever signs him would only be on the hook for the ML minimum (prorated and subtracted from what LAA owes him).

Which he won't do because [a] I would assume there are other places he would prolly rather sign as a FA, [b] he has a wet noodle for am arm, and we don't want or need him. IMO

Are you trying to say he's not worth the pen he would sign the contract with?

Not sure what you're saying here cocktails. Is his arm "al dente" or overcooked?

On a serious note, I'd sign him to a minor league deal and that's it. Let him know he's going to AA or AAA to work his problems out. If he doesn't take it, no worries.
