Default Where does Ross Ohlendorf fit in?

As you know, Dorf has been gone since Mid-April on a shoulder injury and was replaced in the rotation by Jeff Karstens. However, Karstens is 4-4 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 games. Would you take him out for a player coming off a serious injury? They talked about this on one of the sports networks last night.

Karstens stays put. Ross can go to the pen or in AAA. If McDonald is up and down maybe Ross & him compete.

The rule of thumb has always been "nobody loses their job due to injury".

However...when the replacement far exceed's the performance of the injur-ee, rules of thumb are tossed out the window.

    Just ask Wally Pipp.

I would think JMac's spot is more up for grabs than Karsten's.

I say keep Jmac, he has some good stuff, id like to see if they can 'charlie morton' him as well, i would let Dorf get starts in AAA, for either when a.) someone gets injured or b.) some of these guys run out of innings. They were saying on tv recently on how everybody's innings count was way up this year since everyone was actually pitching well and deep into games

I think this just increases the chances that Maholm gets traded...IF Ross comes back strong...yeah big IF....but he goes to the pen and needs to earn his way back to the rotation.

Problem is that Maholm is our only left handed starter with nobody ready to advance from the minors as a lefty. That leaves us in the offseason trying to find a Paul Maholm and a Paul Maholm type likely being about all that is out there for us.

I think you put Dorf in the bullpen and demote someone like Tim Wood. Granted things could play out differently by the time Dorf is ready but Karstens has stepped in well and you have to milk him performing over his head for as long as possible,
