    Default Good news!!

Bylsma gives positive injury updates on Crosby, Malkin
    By Josh Yohe, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Dan Bylsma provided good news Monday regarding his team's biggest stars.

Center Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are healthy and working hard this summer, the Penguins coach reported.

Malkin, by some estimates, is in the best shape of his life and motivated to atone for two substandard seasons. He sustained a torn ACL on Feb. 4, missing the remainder of last season.

"We have heard through (former Penguins defenseman) Sergei Gonchar," Bylsma said, "that he's never seen Geno working this hard and looking this good and this motivated at this time in the summer."

Bylsma confirmed that Malkin probably could have played had the Penguins reached a later playoff round.

Crosby, meanwhile, is working out in Nova Scotia and has reported no concussion-related problems. He last played Jan. 5.

"He's been working out two times a day," Bylsma said.

Bylsma also addressed other topics yesterday:

Although Bylsma has had limited contact with Matt Cooke, who missed the final 17 games of the season because of a suspension, he believes the left wing will be a more responsible player next season.

"I think you'll see a guy who approaches the game a little differently," he said.

On rumored realignment that would reduce the NHL to four divisions with eight teams each starting in 2012-13, Bylsma said, "Realignment may be coming in different shapes and forms. We aren't that eager to welcome good teams to our conference. Nashville seems like the logical one. Columbus is close, as well."

Boy I'd love to see both of them coming back with a vengence.

Uh oh! Is Evgeni Malkin the next Jerom Bettis?

There was a report a bout a couple of weeks ago, think I had posted it, or maybe it was a quick quote from somewhere that mentioned how motivated Geno was.

I think missing that musch season and the Playoffs, seeing the exit from the Playoffs... that's motivation right there. Renewed freshness.

Like Ex mentioned ... coming back with a vengeance. Unfortunately, if Malkin is saddled together again with a Jordan Staal and someone else who doesn't belong on the 2nd Line, then I'm not going to expect Top 5 in the world Production/scoring titles. Get Malkin Jaromir Jagr and we'll start talking. Keep Malkin at Center and then we'll talk scoring titles and Top 5 type of Production

not starting a new thread for this, but the Blues didn't qualify Matt D'Agostini stats. Kid put up 21 goals and 46 points in his first full season of play last year. Boy would he look nice in a Pens uniform. Right handed, right wing

I am really getting excited for this season! I think the league has forgotten how good the Pens can be. If we add an old super star looking for a cup it will be even more threatening. Just can't wait to see a good defensive squad add that power forwarding that we have not seen in a while. Not to mention Jack Adams leading the charge. Anyway I do have a good feeling about Geno right now.

I'm getting pretty excited too. Actually more excited than I was at this point last year. I think it was the early exit from the Playoffs mixed in with the Pens being without Sid and Geno for so long.. adds to the hunger this year, makes you realize that this team got hit by fatigue and lost in the playoffs but that they were able to accomplish so much without Sid and Geno. Add those 2 players and the Pens are THE best team in the NHL. If injuries can avoid us, there's no team in the NHL that can beat the Pens right now especially adding Jaromir Jagr
