    Default How 'bout Watcha readin'?

If any of you are avid readers, you must get the Vince Flynn series of books. One comment says he's Tom Clancy on speed. Couldn't agree more.

His main character is Mitch Rapp who makes Jason Bourne look like a *****. Definitely someone we want on our side. The proverbial 2 thumbs up for sure. What a series of movies these would make.

Sounds like a good read, but "Mitch Rapp" sounds like a reject from 70s porn.

we should have a watcha read sticky, i read a **** load of books and now i read a **** load and half since i have my nook color and i dont have to actually drive to a **** store. And ive been reading the Jack Reacher series from Lee Child, which i hear they are making a movie based off one of the books. That should be good, the reacher character is as bad *** as they come.

Thanks. I'll try him. Hard to imagine he's tougher than the Mitch Rapp character though. That is one tough dude. And I agree on the sticky thing.

Gonna give it a try when I wrap up Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series. I'm always looking for something new to read so thanks for the suggestion.

This is the first one you should get. It gives the basis for the character and helps to understand where the other books get part of the storylines. You can read the first few pages here, so you can get a flavor of Vince Flynn's style be fore getting the book.

Hope guys like it. I'm on the last one. May have to read them all again.

I wish I had more time to read books but I just don't. Outside of my magazine subscriptions to Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Rolling Stone, I have a feed list set up of a good 100+ sites I goto daily and read articles on. Everything from Sports to Science, to Tech to various research types articles. Technically I probably read as much or more than I would if it were just books it's just that I can't find the time to cram in a book

I read the Smithsonian mag and several computer mags. I am getting back on the Popular Science and Mechanics mags...........maybe even Handy Man again. I have a bunch of Woodworking magazines that I use now and then. Fiction comes in the form of a movie.

I'm with Bones and Kip. It's been a while for an actual book but I would usually read sci-fi. I battled through the Otherland series by Tad Williams. I never did finish it. I read the first 2 books in the late 90s when I had a delivery job. Actually waited for the second one to come out and bough it hardback. The third one I bought like 5 years ago and got half way through. They are like 1k pages each. I am not a fast reader. A bunch of star wars books. Now I read beer making books and cook books mainly. I do research too which is just reading different articles about what I am making. If I had an ipad or something I might read again.

I've just finished off a couple of aging (early '80s) tech texts for systems that never came fully to fruition (but you can see where bits are currently in service).

Next up: Kim Newman's Anno Dracula and it's sequel, Bloody Red Baron. An alternate earth wherein Van Helsing and his associates failed to kill Dracula. Being a nobleman, Drac returns to England (where he still has property) and woos Queen Victoria out of her widowhood.

I like spotting the actual historical figures and geek-culture references. Newman's a swine for putting in disposable cameos from the genre's characters (ten Brinken, Mabuse, Professor Challenger etc).

Let me know if those are any good, you cant find good vampire books, they are either too dirty or too romantic

The Anno Dracula books are very good, as far as I'm concerned. These aren't the sparkly brand of vampire. The third book in the series is Dracula Cha Cha Cha (also published as Judgement of Tears), which I have to get again since my ex nicked my copy and the fourth (Johnny Alucard) is due next year.
