    Default Hoke returns to Steelers

    Hoke returns to Steelers
    Monday, August 1, 2011

The Steelers are bringing back another one of their unrestricted free agents as veteran nose tackle Chris Hoke has signed a one-year contract with the team.

Hoke, who is going into his 10th NFL season, recorded 12 tackles in 15 games in 2010. The 6-2, 305-pounder has been a valuable backup to Casey Hampton since making the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2001.

Hoke, who is expected to check in at St. Vincent tonight, is not eligible to practice until Thursday along with the other free agents that have also signed with the Steelers.

The Steelers have now signed eight of their players that had been unrestricted free agents.

A one-year contract implies that the end of that particular line is near. It does, however, give us another year to refit the D line.

I figured that they could save soem money by not signing Hoke and use some combination of Hood, Heyward, and even Stanley in that spot.

If Stanley performs, I would dump Hoke, not because he's weak but you need to get younger and under the cap somewhere.
