Default Steelers sign backup QB Dixon

    Steelers sign backup QB Dixon
    Monday, August 01, 2011

    By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Quarterback Dennis Dixon agreed to sign a one-year tender today to remain with the Steelers.

Dixon is expected to be the team's No. 3 quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich, though veteran Charlie Batch is in training camp.

The Steelers are not expected to carry four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.

Since Sunday night, the Steelers have signed Dixon, running back Mewelde Moore and nose tackle Chris Hoke to one-year contracts.

They should have given this kid the boot when he asked to be traded. The arrogance. Who does he think would want him? Maybe they will just cut him in camp now lol

Well I like him. Wish they would get rid of Leftwich. I've never accepted him as a Steeler. I don't know why. I just haven't.

Dixon could go pound salt for all I care. The guy has never shown a thing, will never show he belongs on this team.
He wanted let go so he could be a starter for another team........ ha !! Does this guy stand in the mirror at night making football poses believing he's the next Johnny Unitas ?

Ben, Byron, Charlie and any young QB other than Dixon will do our Steelers well. A couple of seasons ago we had a young QB come into camp and he looked good, accurate had the poise and Tomlin let him go. The kid out played Dixon.

I'm alright... for now actually. I started tying the noose after William Gay was resigned.. I kind of never expected Batch to last this long to be honest and as long as Dennis Dixon isn't our #2, I'm fine with him as a #3. I personally like Leftwich's experience as a #2..

There's no way they will keep Charlie Batch nor should they.

I wish they would keep Batch. If not as a QB then maybe as a coach. If the Steelers let him get away, they're crazy. He knows too much.

If Dixon has "Kordell syndrome", and is so hell bent on being a starting QB over anything else, then let him go. If he's willing to play different roles on the team to help them win, then he can be very valuable as a player. With his athleticism he could do multiple things on the field. Lineup at WR, put him in the wildcat every once in a while, etc. Kind of like the role they put Kordell in before Kordell just HAD to be a full time starting QB. Someone needs to tell Dixon that he's never going to be a starting QB in this league. You can be a 3rd stringer at QB and still be valuable to the team in other ways.

I'm not sure Dixon has the talent that Kordell did. I never cared for this mix and match stuff for a player of playing different roles. It's nice in a pinch or for an injury but anything beyond that means to me, a team doesn't have enough talent in their starting players. I also hate the wildcat.

Dixon should be put on the kickoff and punt teams. Freakin' prima donna. Go bang some pads and prove you are worthy to even wear black and gold Dennis. You certainly aint proven yourself to be a menance as a qb. Kid shoulda been converted to wr right away like Ward was. Kordell also shoulda been a wr. Atheticism wasted twice by the Steelers. College game is NOT the NFL and skills need placed where they czan best be used. Think of all the des that we turn into lbs. Sad truth is at this point with Dixon his ego will never accept this now. Another hall of famer in only his own mind.

Dixon is fine as a number 3, he's very mobile and could be used in wildcat situations, I suppose.
I think Batch will be cut, and will eventually become their QB coach. The Rooneys love him.
