Default Steelers court former Jets wide receiver Cotchery

Steelers court former Jets wide receiver Cotchery
    By Scott Brown, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Sunday, August 7, 2011

A week after wooing Plaxico Burress, the Steelers are meeting with another free agent wide receiver.

Jerricho Cotchery, an eight-year NFL veteran, is visiting the Steelers today at St. Vincent. Cotchery had been with the New York Jets since 2004 but the 6-foot, 207-pounder became expendable, ironically enough, after the Jets signed Burress.

Cotchery, 29, underwent back surgery during the offseason after catching 41 passes for 433 yards and two touchdowns in 2010.

His best season came in 2007 when Cotchery caught 82 passes for 1,130 yards and two touchdowns.

I wouldn't mind this signing at all.

How's that ironic? The correct word might be "coincidental", or "oddly". Whenever I see someone misuse the word ironic I die a little inside.

    The signing would be good.

Wouldn't it be "ironic," if after the Steelers failed to sign Plax, they filled the slot (no pun intended) with the guy who the Jets cut to make room for Plax?

To me, that would qualify as irony.

Back surgery, doesn't put up a lot of points. I don't see this being a good addition to the team.

We don't necessarily need a #1 or #2. His numbers seem fine for. 3rd 4th option depending on how everyone else performs. The injury? Put it to him in camp if his back is not good then cut him. Players do bounce back after injuries from time to time in fact we are counting on it with our own players.

... He will eventually sign with SD, who is looking for another WR... And he will be reunited with his college qb, whom he played with for 4 seasons...
