    Default Finally.....

Raise the Jolly Roger!! The Bucco's are back on the left column!!! It was a good performance tonight as the new guys stepped up and delivered for the team and Morton had more than a strong outing!!! Nice to see the team rebound with a good performance on the left coast. Here's hoping it can continue!!!

This is what we needed. We needed a pitcher to pitch a shutout and morton did that but... morton did that against the Cubs and we still loss so good on Veras to mop up his lone inning of relief this time.

Garrett Jones with a nice night 4-5
Ludwick with a nice night 2-3, BB and 2 rbi's

Yes it is. Sounds like it was a good team win with Morton looking strong............except against lefties. But hey 8 innings of shutout ball is good. Let's win the series tomorrow.

After tonight's game, jones' batting average is up to .249. Entering tonight's game it was at .240. Jones entered the month of August batting a lowly .230 but has since been mashing it with 3 Homers and 4 doubles in 8 games this month

Morton struggles against lefties because so much of his movement goes inside to righties. The next step for morton is perfecting his break to lefties. They showed him strike out a lefty tonight and how he got the inside movement, it's just not anywhere near consistent, hence why lefties kill him.

That will be his next step towards becoming a dominant Roy Halladay clone and probably boosting his K/9 too but you can't argue with 15 shut out innings the past 2 games and actually 17 straight shut out innings going back to the Phillies game he got destroyed in early

It's amazing what some job competition will do for a guys bat. There's guys coming back soon and at bats are going to be hard to get. Regardless of the division race, who gets the at bats around Cutch will be interesting. They have Tabata playing some rightfield on his rehab.

Even throughout this 10 game losing streak, there were still positives to draw from, with Morton being one of them. Maybe now, they can catch their breath and get back to playing like before, the pressure of the playoff chase is pretty much gone so maybe they can relax and just play.

Yeah, Kipper, I told you Morton was the best candidate to pull us out of this funk!

Morton and McDonald have both made progress this year. That's a real positive for the whole season but especially during the losing
streak. Karstens really did not pitch badly either during the streak but didn't catch any breaks. Correia, on the other hand, has been bad for two months. Not sure what to make of him going forward. He was good early in the season when batters were still a bit behind. But he has gotten progressively worse and certainly showed no ability to step it up when he was most needed. Maholm? He's the guy who really needed to show some veteran skill during the streak but was mediocre in an expected kind of way. If he steps up and throws a big game duribg the losing streak, my whole perception of himwould've changed. As it is, I seriously question picking up his option next year. I know he's an "innings eater" but unless they can strike a deal for multiple years at a lot less $ i don't think he's worth it. However, he is the kind of player who would leave and have that one brilliant season elsewhere. Maybe if Ohlendorf is ready, and Maholm can clear waivers, you trade him? All in all, a lot was learned during that losing streak ....

    Well hell, you tried.

I had a funny feeling that we would win last nights game to the point where I placed a $10 bet. I liked morton pitching but msot importantly I felt like the Pirates needed a change of scenery and hitting the road would provide that for them and hopefully get them rebounding.

Last nights game looked like a breath of fresh air

I put up Correia's individual numbers and he's not struggling with command or control, he's just really getting hit when batters are putting contact to the ball. There's some bad luck involved there. His BABIP is pretty high . .394 during this losing streak isw so far above league average that it indicates a good bit of bad luck. The first 2 months of the season, Correia had an ERA in the 3's and a Babip os .271. So while he was a little below league average and getting a tiny bit of good luck, it's not where near what the hell teams are hitting off him now.
