Default Pirates' Ohlendorf coming off disabled list

Pirates' Ohlendorf coming off disabled list
    Friday, August 12, 2011
    By Paul Zeise, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
MILWAUKEE - Right-handed Pirates pitcher Ross Ohlendorf has been recalled from rehab, reinstated from the 60 day disabled list and optioned to AAA Indianapolis. He has been recovering from a right shoulder injury.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated pitcher Tim Wood for assignment.

Ohlendorf's next scheduled start date at Indianapolis is to be determined.

Also, the rehab assignments of infielder Chase d'Arnaud and outfielder Alex Presley have been transferred from Bradenton to Indianapolis.

The $2 million man managed to make it through 8.2 innings before missing 4 months, now he's been sent to the minors. That arbitration case really didn't go well. I assume we'll see him again in September, if not sooner, but I don't know how much of a future he has in this organization. He has to be considered a non-tender candidate at this point, though they may be willing to take a shot if he's willing to settle for something close to this year's salary.

Im sure we will likely see him in September. The taxed out BP could use a fresh arm or 2 which Ohlendorf provides.

The problem with Ohlendorf is that he has shown strong potential to be a good pitcher when healthy, unfortunately, he's been injured every year, every first half of a year it seems.

You hate to give up on guys that have some talent when you are uncertain about whether someone like Jeff karstens is a real long term solution, what they will do with Paul Maholm, Kevin Correia after next season. We have options out of AAA in the near and present but.... it's a nice log jam to have. More decent pitching candidates we have the better

Ohllie should make a good fifth starter, McDonald a good fourth, Karstens could be a three.
    All the Buccos need is a 1 & 2.........Morton is pitching like a 2!

The Pirates need to concentrate on offense and hope "we" grow a #1 starter. I do not see Correa or Maholm filling that role or even on the team next year. They are 3 or 4 or 5's on a more mature team.

BTW the Twitter feed on the side is great!
