Default James Harrison's Leg Power Has Decreased Since Offseason Surgeries

Dale Lolley of the Washington Observer-Reporter hears that OLB James Harrison's leg power has decreased substantially following dual offseason back surgeries.

According to Lolley's sources, Harrison is squatting 365 pounds right now compared to the 600 pounds he put up before the surgery. Harrison sat out the preseason opener, and this report suggests he won't be his dominant self early in the season. 2010 second-rounder Jason Worilds could pick up extra snaps. Aug 14, 5:25 PM

He will undoubtably need some time to recover from his surgery. Will he be himself? Time will tell...

.... The Freakin' NFL is a brutal sport.......

I hope that he recovers so as to be a player for our team to the maximum extent.... I also gotta say that his latest mag interview casts a dark light on him.... It does for me..... I don't want him running his yap, just playing football.

......... We all do. That is what brought him to this point to begin with... Tough call & double standard possibly.

I can certainly see why he is an angry man when it comes to Goodell and the NFL, but from my own experiences at my job, he still needs to focus on football.

I suspect this will be Harrison's last year with us.

I'm no meathead, but I've spent enough time in the weight room to know that his "max-out" squat weight is probably being monitered closely by strength and conditioning coaches, to be sure that he doesn't do more damage to his back. My guess is that it's more of a preventative measure than loss of "leg power." I doubt that his quads, glutes and hammys lost that much strength over the offseason (especially considering the therapy sessions described in the MJ article)? But then again, I'm no trainer...I just play one on TV

Didn't think about that, but it makes alot of sense that they would monitor his workouts to ensure an incremental increase in the amount of weight he works out with.

**** HGH testing...Sorry, that's the first thing I thought of. Hope this decrease is just a procaution, his game is all about leverage and if his base is weak we could be in trouble.

It does make sense not to let him jump back into his gym habits too quickly following two back surgeries and risk further damage that could cause him to miss significant time.. He may not be at full strength yet, but he should be soon enough.

Yeah, I dont think that HGH has ANYTHING to do with 92's strength... Again, if you've read the MJ article and his outspoken comments on Cushing/'roids, you'd get the impression that his strength is not stemmed from synthetic hormones, but rather hard work and freakish genetics!

If I were an owner, coach, or trainer... I wouldn't risk anything with a player like Harrison! He still has a lot of "tread on the tires," as a late bloomer...but you don't want to take any chances in the weight room. There are countless different workouts to maintain/improve lower body strength that don't put as much strain on the back (as is the case with squatting 600lbs)

Six hundred pounds is a lot of stress on the back. You don't need to do that much weight to keep your legs strong. Doing that is more of a show off tactic than actually a work-out tactic.

I wouldn't be surprised if Silverback never squats 600 lbs again as long as he is playing football. If he screws his back up, he won't be able to play at all.

As long as his legs are just strong enough to get the QB, that's all I care about. Go with the seated leg presses James

When he "is" done playing I hope he goes on a personal crusade to haunt Goodell! At some point I would like to see Goodell on fire and Harrison turning his back to take a ****

It had to happen that James would not be in his normal condition or shape after the surgery. Hopefully he will still be in enough shape to be a force and this is a good way to get Worilds some play time and having him groomed a little quicker than possibly expected.

Supposedly he is gonna be at full strength by opening Sunday, but like you said it is critical that Worilds get ready to possibly get extensive playing time.
