Default Last Day Of Camp, Tomlin's Decisions, Hills To Start at RG vs. Eagles

    Tuesday, August 16, 2011
    Last day of camp

Mike Tomlin held his final press conference of training camp 2011 and was much more interesting today than he was at his PC last week:

Tomlin said Troy Polamalu and James Harrison will play Thursday against Philadelphia after sitting against Washington.

The starters are expected to see 20 to 25 snaps.

Tony Hills will get the start at RG.

Emmanuel Sanders, Cortez Allen, Crezdon Butler, Bryant McFadden, Ike Taylor, Chris Kemoeatu and Mario Harvey are out as of now. That list could be added to later.

Tomlin did not discount having his kickers boot the ball shorter to allow for returns to get a look at his special teams coverage units.

Tomlin also said he wants to get an extended look at Jonathan Dwyer in this game.

I talked to Dwyer at lunch. Said he's lost 15 pounds since he's been in camp.

I will be viciously ****ed of Tony Hills is handed the RG spot over Doug :egurskly which appears to be the choice when you get the start in Pre-Season Game #2 sometimes. Crossing my fingers it's early but I will still stick by an opinion I have carried since Super Bowl XLV ..

Doug Legursky's performance as RG during the season, on the big stage in the Playoffs and then subbing for Pouncey as a Center in the SB and controlling a NT like Raji who people felt would kill Legursky EARNED him a starting job. He proved he could perform exceptionally well in the biggest stages. Screwing him out of a starting job for a guy like Tony Hills who has been inconsistent and underwhelming in his time so far is a pretty big slap in the face to Legursky IMO

It is a shame Harvey is hurt. Ya can't make a team as an undrafted, if you're hurt!

It's like that across the NFL which mens a lot of good players (mostly youjn) are going to get cut. I hope Colbert keeps his eye on every DB let go.

You're **** right Legursky has earned a starting job at guard after what he did last year and it would be an idiotic move to hold his versatility against him. He has proven he is one of the best 5 lineman and needs to be starting without question and not be pigeonholed as a super sub.

Why do some people have to tempt fate when it is completely unnecessary? Touchbacks are your friend Mike.

I guess if your looking to see what kind of coverage team you have, I can see kicking it short in a Preseason game. But with moving the kickoffs up to the 35 yard line, it'll be nice to see the football hit the endzone on maybe a semi regular basis.

Hmmm, let me think about this for a second. When kickoffs were from the 30 yd line, we routinely kicked it to the 10. Now we've moved the kicks up 5yds and all of a sudden people are talking about a steady diet of touchbacks. (Not directed at you Steelreign.) Granted a lot of that happened when Skippy Peanut Butter was kicking and less when Sushi came in.

Nevertheless, we do need the work on ST because as someone said, what's to stop a team from running out of the endzone. Not necessarily an automatic touchback. Washington game was a good example. Ran 1 kick out from 7 yds deep and almost broke it.

POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

I gotcha ex, I know what you mean. It would be nice to have a kicker, like Robbie Gould, who can now regularly kick it out of the endzone now, from the 35. Those hidden yards in the field position battle are huge. No matter how good your defense is, if their offense is routinely starting around the 30-35 yard line, that puts alot more pressure on the defense.
