    Default Fire Nick Leyva....YESTERDAY!

Our third base coach has found ways to **** me off all year, but the 8th inning of the Reds vs. Pirates has got me REALLY fired up!

Pirates, down a run, runners on second and third, NOBODY out. McCutchen ropes one into left field. Tabata ties it easily, and for some reason, Leyva ****ing decides to wave Jones home! Jones was out by a mile! With two outs, I understand taking a risk, but there is no way in hell you take a risk with NO OUTS! ****!

As I was venting, Doumit reached on an E4, and Walker walked. Now Ludwick is up, 1 out, and based loaded. Ludwick flies out to center, Cutch out at plate. Tie game. That play could cost us big time.

**** YOU, NICK LEYVA! **** YOU, YOU STUPID ****ING MORON!!

WTF? Just because I'm not in the majors, it doesn't mean I can't recognize stupidity when I see it. What a stupid ****ing argument!

Furthermore, I've seen some of YOUR posts on how this team should be run. Give Dusty Brown more playing time? Get rid of ownership, let the fans run the Pirates? I ask YOU: "Who is in the majors, Huntington/Nutting/Coonelly, or you?"

So why the **** is my non-professional opinion worth any less than yours?

BTW, I may never have coached the majors, but I have been a third base coach in little league and high school games. The principle is the EXACT same. You NEVER risk a play at the plate with zero outs. That is Cardinal rule of baseball.

    **** OFF!

    **** OFF!

Never make the first out of an inning at 3rd or, in this case, especially home.

Always seemed like a well-known baseball rule to me...

    Sid is right.

This isn't the first boneheaded move by Leyva this season.
Not even the second or third.

    He should go.

Gotta agree you never waste a runner at third with no out. Discretion is the better part of valor.

I didn't see the play, but absolutely agree with Sid. I too have coached Little League and the strategy in the game is exactly the same, may even more stringent at the ML level where a LL player may not have the arm or accuracy that you would expect a ML player to have. (Unless, of course, he's Barry Bonds trying to throw out that speedster Sid Bream.) You simply don't do that with 0 outs.

As much as I think Hurdle is a great asset for the Pirates, and a great manager overall....I wonder why he puts up with Leyva when these errors occur....

Maybe there is a change coming at the third base coaching slot, I don't know, but there have been quite a few times this year with guys being thrown out at the plate at critical junctures in games. Maybe the thought process has been because of a lack of faith in the offense they gotta take chances or the runners are taking chances on their own, I don't know, either way when your offense is anemic you can't be running yourself out of innings.

Leyva has cost us outs at home all year. The almost worst was a few games ago when he sent (Walker I think?) and then as he rounded third changed his mind stranding the runner half-way. The fact that the other team (Cards maybe?) blew the throw and tag is the only thing that saved that play from being the biggest bonehead move of the year.

    I remeber that.
Leyva stood there with his hands on his head afterwards looking confused.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 8 runs that he has cost the Pirates from sending them ill advisedly and another 5 holding them when they would've scored, that's 13 runs right there.
