    Default New Kickiff Rule

I'm surprised the no one has mentioned this yet so here it goes. WTF ? Talk about letting the air out of the tires.

Actually I'm happy about it. In my opinion the Steelers have been up and down with kickoff coverage and allowing big returns. Not as much lately but do you remember how bad our coverage could be in the past ?

With our style of defense and making teams fight for every inch of field position this, could only help our defense that much more. This kickoff rule is a strength gained for our teams defense.

i'm just not sure what it does for our offense but if you think about it we, and again just through my glasses we, never really depended upon big or good kickoff returns for our offense to stirve.

This rule will do us well.

PS.........the NFL will soon realize our Steelers will do better and then change the rule back.

I can't say I like the rule cos it kills the excitement a bit but it does suit the Steelers at the moment so I'll take it as a positive for now. What really ****es me off this year is the review on every TD. An extra 2 mins after every TD is a total drag with all those ****ing commercials.

Yeah...................I agree 100% and to me this is a way of controlling the game even more. You look at stuff long enough and you can convince yourself that there is something there or not.

I think this has been discussed in different threads but not one of it's own

Personally i think it's a garbage rule. It's a rule that will definitely helps us but I think kickoffs are now pointless and that if they are concerned about injuries this much, then eliminate Kickoffs all together. You won't bore the crowd and you'll eliminate the possibility of injuries off of a useless return

It is a garbage rule... According to Tunch & Hillgrove (radio broadcast during the Philly game) The NFL claims that so far during preseason they are averaging only 60% touchbacks, but I don't buy it at all... The only kicks that aren't booted out are the ones where they intentionally keep 'em short.

... Also according to Tunch & Hillgrove, the NFL says it will re-evaluate the rule after the season, and if the average goes above 80%, they will change it back... I hope they do.

I don't know anyone that thinks this is a good idea. So we can take advantage this year and then next they change it back. It kills me they have to constantly tweak the game even if they don't have good reasons for it.

They'll never get rid of KOs because there's always that possibility of a dynamic return.Stupid, but that's Goodell's MO.....

Devin Hester should sue the NFL.

You kind of hit upon something there. For the players that only have value as a special teams return man, they may have jepordized some of these guys careers/employment.

That's kinda dumb though. There shouldn't be a designated return guy.Who says "I wanna be a return guy in the NFL when I grow up?"No one gets drafted based on that alone.

Agreed, but you have to consider the source.... As most knowledgable fans know, the majority (not all, but most) of players on ST are there in a capacity to simply make the team. For example, we got LBs playing ST because they cannot break-in to the roster on a team well-stocked with them... It's not a "destination", but merely a "stepping stone".

Its a great rule for the Steelers, but a horrible rule for the league. Im not happy with much the NFL does these days, this rule change is no different.
