I think AP adds a ton to the lineup. The kid just keeps hitting and hitting!! He is solid in the field as well. The Bucco's outfield looks like it could be set for a good long while!!! Tabata and Cutch are locks for years to come and if Alex keeps playing this way it's going to be hard for anyone to crack the lineup until Josh Bell gets to the Burgh!!!

Presley should lead off--because of OBP-- and Tabata bat second

Presley has done a great job of getting on this year for the short time he's been up. He steals bases, takes the extra bases whenever it's there and he covers alot of ground in the outfield. He has been a catalyst at the top of the lineup since he has been up with the Pirates and deserves the chance he has gotten. Nice to finally have depth in the system, because he very likely could be traded once Marte and Grossman are ready, but until then if he keeps playing the way he has, it will only increase his trade value.

While I appreciate the talents of guys like Presley, Marte and Grossman, at the most they're supporting bit players on a championship type team. We need boppers, main guys, guys teams must game plan around. The Brewers have Braun and Fielder as much as we hate them they make a difference. Of course Pujols, Holliday and Berkman are in St. Louis. Where are our boppers?

We were hoping Alvarez is that guy but obviously it hasn't happened..yet. We could wait for Bell but that may or may not happen at all and it does it will be 2014 or 2015. 'Cutch is great and hasn't reached his ceiling . But will it be much more than we're seeing this year? He needs some support to reach another level.

OK, let's look at some numbers. Top 5 HR hitters from the NL and the AL. Every time you hit a HR you get an RBI...yourself. So lets make some adjustments and compare. I took the # of HRs off their RBI totals and also took the number of HRs off their ABs (don't ask why, I just did). Here then the ADJUSTED no of RBI's per the adjusted ABs.

Player HR Adj RBI Adj AB AB/RBI
    Pujols 31 48 434 9.04
    Kemp 31 69 458 6.64
    Berkman 30 51 360 7.05
    Uggla 30 37 462 12.47
    Stanton 30 47 411 8.47

    Bautista 37 46 376 8.17
    Granderson 36 67 441 6.58
    Texeira 35 64 452 7.06
    Reynolds 30 41 406 9.09
    Konerko 28 59 420 7.11

Now how do we stack up against that?

    Cutch 18 59 469 7.86
    Walker 11 65 474 7.29
    Jones 15 39 346 8.87

And for Shakers comment about Presley et al

    Presley 1 9 95 9.44
    Marte 12 38 485 12.76
    Grossman 13 41 455 11.09

Based on these numbers alone, we're not that far out of whack.

BTW, I sure hope this displays properly because I'm gonna be ****ed for going through all this typing if it doesn't.

I'm not a big fan of using RBI's as a statistic to base much off of since it's highly dependent on where you bat and chances to begin with. someone that bats leadoff won't get as many rbi's as someone that bats 3rd. Someone that bats 5th won't get as many rbi's if the guys batting 4th and 3rd have low OBP's or are only managing to get on 1st base and fail to get into scoring position. There's so many variables that come into play in order to just get the chance at producing an RBI.

What's most important about Presley is that he's not been anything more than a singles hitter after hitting a ridiculously high amount of triples in a short period of time. More of an indication of fluke performance there. It's not so much that he's only hitting a very low .174 since returning despite protection in the lineup in a lower leverage spot in the order. although it will only take 1 or 2 games to drive his batting Average up with his low number of AB's, it's Presley's SLG % that concerns me. He's a corner OF'er, he can't have a pedestrian type SLG % . Since he's returned, his Slugging % has fallen from .496 to .433 and just keeps plummeting. The kid hasn't stolen many bases (5 in 8 attempts) and if you aren't hitting balls into the gap, what good is "speed" if it can't be used and isn't being used?

If Presley were at least a doubles hitting machine or showcased some gap power I'd be feeling him a little more but he's not shown that type of stroke.

Been out of town and just got back. Honestly Kipper, I don't understand what your issue with Presley is. Granted since he returned from the DL his average hasn't been great (which will continue to improve as he gets stronger), but last night he had 2 triples and the night before a HR. I simply believe that he brings an energy to this team that you can't get off of a stat sheet. And, for what it's worth, an energy that I don't see from Pedro.
