Default Guenin Up;Goligoski out three weeks

Penguins' Goligoski could miss up to three weeks
    Team recalls defenseman Nate Guenin
    Monday, November 16, 2009
    By Shelly Anderson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Penguins defenseman Alex Goligoski is the latest player who will miss time because of injury.

Goligoski, who is third on the team with 14 points, is having an MRI today, and coach Dan Bylsma said the best guess is that Goligoski will be out two to three weeks.

When they play Anaheim tonight at Mellon Arena, the Penguins will have three defensemen who began the season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Deryk Engelland, Ben Lovejoy and Nate Guenin have all been recalled to fill in for injured players. Guenin, a Hopewell High School graduate, was recalled today.

If he gets into a game, Guenin would join Ryan Malone and Bill Thomas as the only local natives to make a regular-season appearance with the Penguins.

On the article in the Pittsburgh Trib, he was on a 3rd defence pairing, and also workin some on the PP, there is no doubt he will be playing... this injury bug has to find the Flyers instead, starting with Richards, Hartnell, Carter, and Pronger

They would find some way to blame it on Sidney Crosby being a *****.

For real though, I like what I have seen from the defensmen from WBS so far. Lovejoy especially has looked like true NHL caliber defenseman from the littler we have seen from him so far and Guenin was very solid tonight.

Lovejoy, Guenin and Engelland I thought had pretty good games last night. They all struggled with certain things I figured they would like Anaheim's forecheck, but they didn't allow them to beat them and that was key. Their inexperience and not having familiarity with some of these players in the NHL takes some adjustment time and for not having much of that, they did well against Anaheim

Having off til Thursday will be key for those guys to get a lil more familiarity with the team, and work on the lil things that I also thought they need worked on, but having the same system in WBS as here is so key that they were even as decent as they were last night, and I'm not putting them down at all, I think they played great for the hot pressure they were thrown into.

Definitely. They've been on a pretty stable but rigorous play every other day schedule. This extra day off should be helpful for the young guys, just to get some chemistry with their pairing mates. The one nice thing is that they know Bylsma's system or in Guenin's case, have played some games and traning camp at WBS in with which they are using the same systems and schemes down there as well.

Now it's just adjustments, getting the butterflies out and forming some chemistry

Talbot Tuhrsday and Gonch has been cleared for contact. If gonch sticks to the same schedule Malkin did after he was cleared for contact with no problems, we could see him as early as Saturday or perhaps next week
