    PITTSBURGH SPORTS FORUM !!!!

Surprise! We have changed our name.

After months of planning and preparation, we have changed our name from the Pittsburgh Sports Tavern to the Pittsburgh Sports Forum. The reasons are fairly straight forward you see, we were being confused too often as being a real bar to the point where it made Promotion really difficult. We Are also embaraking on the difficult task of transforming the Pittsburgh Sports Forum into as much of a Blog as it is a Message Forum and to do that we need to pull in folks that are interested in Blogging and perhaps some smaller Blog sites that want to tap into our Network. Having a Website whose name is more representative of the content made sense from a promotional standpoint. We aren't and never were a bar, so while the name was created to reflect the type of atmosphere we wanted, it got lost in translation out on the World Wide Web!

Why the Pittsburgh Sports Forum as a name? Originally in late September/Early October of 2009 when a group of us banded in secret to create this website, we had the task of creating a name. The "Pittsburgh Sports Tavern" was originally created from members leaving the old/orginal and defunct since 2010 "The Steelers Forum", "The Pens Forum" and "The Bucco's Forum". The first name to pop up was "Pittsburgh Sports Forum" since it was the most natural. However, due to the split, we wanted to distance ourselves from those old sites so we chose the "Pittsburgh Sports Tavern". Now we are returning to one of the first names we had chosen. It makes even more sense too since I (Kipper) was the one that created the name for the old/original and defunct "The Pens Forum", "The Steelers Forum" and "The Bucco's Forum". I liked them enough originally along with using the title "Forum" in a name that it made sense to bring back something with both familiarity and a past.

As we welcome in the name Pittsburgh Sports Forum we also need to welcome in The Steelers Forum, The Pens Forum and The Pirates Forum as we have renamed all of those as well to keep the theme intact!!!

So what is new with the Pittsburgh Sports Forum?

    1. As was mentioned earlier we are putting more of an emphasis on providing original content, so as we do that, we hope for you all to expect to see some more "Blog Articles" along with our continuing emphasis on providing you with the latest in Pittsburgh sports news.

    2. Bringing back The Steelers Forum, The Pens Forum and The Pirates Forum titles we wanted to provide an experience for each teams forum that made it feel even more like you were on a separate website. By doing this we have tapped into the abilities of our Sidebar Menu's. The Sidebar Menu's are what really bridges the Forum and Blog concept as it provides a Blog feel on top of the Message Board format. With the Sidebar Menu's in each teams forum, we have added the Top 10 Most recent Threads, 3 Most recent Posts, Most recent 5 Threads in the other teams Forums, direct links to the other teams Forums, and the most recent news for each team pulled from official media sites like the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Official teams websites, their beat writers and more... You won't find this type of news information on any other Message Board.

    3. We have added the ability for the creation of Global Threads for those with Blog Writer, Moderator and Admin permissions. With this feature we can make a Threads that spans every Forum at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum. This is a great benefit for Blog Writers who might be wanting to touch a topic that is more than 1 team or sport specific. This feature also gives us the ability to project important news and also Forum wide contests and polls.

    4. Directly tied into #3 we are bringing back a very popular Poll that I (Kipper) started and ran at all of the old/original and defunct The Steelers Forum, The Pens Forum and The Bucco's Forum called...

    The ******* Of The Month.

Each month a big list of participants will be added and the entire Forum can vote on who is the ******* of the month. Each ******* of the Month winner is added to the list that shows up each month for the next Poll. After the first month, we'll be taking requests for future "*******s" to be added to the list to choose.

    5. Say GOODBYE to the "Draft Day Room". We are merging all Pittsburgh Steelers related draft content into the Steelers Talk board. As we do this we will be making it a priority that everyone chooses the "Draft" Prefix so that the content is easily separated and organized for those that visit the Steelers Talk board. The "Draft" content has been an issue in the past with our prior requirement that it all be posted in the "Draft Day Room". Complaints were launched that the "Draft Day Room" Board is too hidden and not visited as much as the main Steelers Talk board. We're giving the people what they asked for! Just make sure you add the "Draft" prefix next to draft related Threads or they could magically disappear to the sound of Palmetto Steel's whistles in the wind!

    6. Corresponding with #5 we have created a brand new competition called the Pittsburgh Sports Forum Mock Draft Extravaganza! You can read more about this below.

    7. Integrating the General Topic boards into each teams Forum and Sidebar Menu's. It's our belief that the Beer Garden, Entertainment, Hobby Lobby and Landscaping and Outdoors Forums get forgotten. The only access to them is by going to the Forum Home page and navigating down to them. A lot of people have specific teams Forums bookmarked or don't wonder too far away from the team Forums so we decided to integrate these General topic Forums into each Teams Forum. When you view for example The Steelers Forum there will be boards from that menu to access Entertainment, Beer Garden, Landscaping and Outdoors and Hobby Lobby. Those when clicked and selected will redirect you to the actual threads. In the Sidebar Menu for each teams Forum, the newest General Topic Threads will be listed along with that teams News Threads.

MAKE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR BOOKMARKS!!!

If you have a certain Forum bookmarked make sure that you change your existing one to one that has "pittsburghsportsforum.com" in it. Your old bookmark will work through the first week of October but you can't Login from the "pittsburghsportstavern.com" URL, it's Read only.

    BLOGGERS !!! BLOGGERS !!! BLOGGERS !!!
We Want Bloggers/Writers At The Pittsburgh Sports Forum

Do you write a Blog? Have you wanted to write a Blog but didn't have the time? Here's your chance to do so at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum. We are the ONLY Pittsburgh sports website that has a Blog and Message Board completely integrated together. There are plenty of websites out there that have both a Blog and Forum but the content is separated. If you write a Blog, the Blog post and comments remain with the Blog. If you post a Thread in a Message Forum, that Thread Post and the replies stay in that Thread. At the Pittsburgh Sports Forum, we have customized the ability for the Blog and Forum to be integrated together. It's simple actually, You create a Thread in the Forum, with the Blog Article writing permissions you are given and that Thread is sent to the Main Page to appear as a Blog. All comments are combined as replies to that Thread.

We at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum are looking for Bloggers/Writers that are interested in sharing their opinions and providing original content in more of a journalistic way as a Blogger does. We are turning our efforts at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum towards providing more quality and original content and we would like to invite people to have the opportunity to showcase themselves. Our good friend Dave Harrison from Bucs Trade Winds, Dharr18 as many know him on the Message Board has become the very 1st Official Blogger to take advantage of our Blog Writing abilities at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum. We have set him up with his own customized and unique name plate using his "Bucs Trade Winds" name and when he provides his Blog Article it will have the Pre-Fix of "Bucs Trade Winds" next to it and will be sent to thousands automatically on Twitter, Facebook and Google+. As a Blogger, think of the Pittsburgh Sports Forum as your Network. The more Bloggers/Writers that join the Pittsburgh Sports Forum, the larger collective audience there will be to read your content.

This offer isn't just exclusive for those that run/ran Blogs. Any member of the Pittsburgh Sports Forum is more than welcome to join us as a Blog Writer. As some have likely seen there have been a few different members at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum who have written exclusive "Articles" . If you are interested in writing, perhaps you had considered starting a Blog at some point but didn't want the hassle of keeping up with it... well this is Blogging without the hassle.

    If you are interested,
you can contact Kipper - pittsburghsportsforum@gmail.com and if you would like you can read a more detailed version of a being a Blog Writer at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum by clicking HERE or copying and pasting ---> http://www.pittsburghsportsforum.com...pageid=writers

The Pittsburgh Sports Forum Mock Draft Extravaganza!

Are you an NFL Draft junkie? Do you think you are smarter than Mel Kiper and the rest of the self appointed media "experts"? Then show us, by signing up for the Pittsburgh Sports Forum Mock Draft Extravaganza! This contest is a test of those that spend the Offseason revising their Mock Drafts to suit to perfect what they believe will be the outcome for the Pittsburgh Steelers but rarely are people accurate enough to be considered anything more than "novices". Here's your chance to prove the pessimists (Kipper and Palmetto Steel) wrong and prove to others that you are indeed worthy of being called an "expert".

Check out our Stickied Thread in The Steelers Talk board of The Steelers Forum in the next few days for all of the information and details!!!

    Support The Pittsburgh Sports Forum

Here at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum we strive to provide all of our members and potential new members with a top notch online community atmosphere. Unfortunately it doesn't happen without a lot of back end work, headaches and naturally the services that the Pittsburgh Sports Forum runs on aren't Free. Monthly server fees, yearly Domain name costs, forum software costs are all of the many things at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum that your contribution would support towards paying. Palmetto Steel and Kipper will and always appreciate any and every financial contribution/donation made by the members of the Pittsburgh Sports Forum. It is helpful to our long term goal of maintaining a top notch Website. You can click HERE to view our detailed and transparent Donation page that provides all of the information for the costs of the Pittsburgh Sports Forum and how to make a Donation. You could also copy and paste this Link into your Browser. ---> http://www.pittsburghsportsforum.com...?pageid=donate

*** Get your Pittsburgh Sports Forum App for Smartphones and Tablets!! (iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone 7, Nokia, iPad) If you haven't done so yet you can by clicking HERE or clicking on the "Mobile" tab in the Pittsburgh Sports Forum. This App is designed and hosted by a 3rd party company called - Tapatalk. This is a fairly nice App that many of us use regularly. It is constantly being updated. The only downside is that it's not a Free App which is out of our control unfortunately. It costs a one-time fee of $2.99 (which we see nothing of, the money goes to Tapatalk for creating and updating the App). However unlike "FREE" Apps that you can find at various Blog sites offered by a company called Notice Orange, this Tapatalk App is fully interactive. The "FREE" apps are Read Only which means you can't post replies and interact. With the Tapatalk App, you have the ability to post Threads, replies, quote and interact at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum as you would on a PC. So, download the App today and take the Pittsburgh Sports Forum on the road where you go!

*** If you have not done so by now, the Pittsburgh Sports Forum is on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+. @pghsportsforum for Twitter, http://www.facebook.com/pghsportsforum for Facebook and https://plus.google.com/113016728585152814643 for Google+. Please add us as a Friend and/or Follow us. All Sports related Threads are automatically Tweeted out and posted to our Facebook Wall as they are made automatically. All "Blog Articles" are posted to Google+. Having the Pittsburgh Sports Forum on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ is a nice alternative to keep up with your Pittsburgh Sports News and what is happening at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum if you aren't on the Pittsburgh Sports Forum site itself.!

*** We ask that when you create a Thread at the Pittsburgh Sports Forum that you fill out the Subject line with something invigorating and informative. Until we can find a proper way to split "Discussion Topics" and "News and Article" topics, all Threads that are created get automatically Tweeted out to Twitter and posted on our Facebook Wall. When one of our thousands of followers on Twitter and Facebook friends see something like "Troy Polamalu" posted, it looks like we have Tourrettes Syndrome. We ask that until a solution to split "Discussion" Threads is created that you create Subject titles that are descriptive and informative to the content being posted.

*** Please help out the Pittsburgh Sports Forum and yourself too, if you know of any Pittsburgh sports fan(s), let them know about the Pittsburgh Sports Forum and invite them over. We are always looking for new quality members, new quality personalities and new interesting quality voices of opinion. The more people, the merrier!

In it's short existence so far, the Rumbunter Podcast has interviewed the Pittsburgh Sports Forum's very own - Kipper along with Pittsburgh Pirates CEO/President, Frank Coonelly, GM, Neal Huntington, Manager, Clint Hurdle, 104.7FM Pre/Post Game host David Todd, Minor League Pitcher, Kyle McPherson, Pittsburgh-Trib columnist, Dejan Kovacevic along with various independent bloggers...

*** Join us in The Pirates Forum this entire offseason to follow up on and discuss all of the news regarding the Pittsburgh Pirates, Free Agency, Signings, The Rumbunter Podcast, Bashing Bob Smizik and more...

    The Pens Forum

*** The Pens went from a long losing streak to a big winning streak in the matter of weeks. That's how you spell "streaky" team. While the losing streak wasn't fun, the winning streak was both fun and enjoyable as we played with superstitions at The Pens Forum. Sitting at 30-19-5 with 65 Points tied for the 5th Seed in the Eastern Conference for the Playoffs, the Pens are in a solid position heading to the playoffs with a strong chance of having Sidney Crosby joining them in the near future.

*** One of the most exciting times for hockey fans is upon us - The Trade Deadline. The Trade Deadline this year is February 27th, 2012 at 3pm. Between now and then will be a whirlwind of rumors and speculation that you will want to be at The Pens Forum to check up on!

*** So, stop in The Pens Forum and follow the Pittsburgh Penguins season with us as we will discuss and debate all things Pittsburgh Penguins along with our Game Day Threads in The Pens Forum Game Lounge where you can join regulars (419)BlackNGold, BlackNGoldRules, Airleg1, Xterratu, El Sid (Road Games),Buckeyehoppy and more!...

    The Steelers Forum

*** Steeler Nation welcomes aboard, Todd Haley as the new Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Coordinator. Todd Haley replaces one of the most hated coaches the Pittsburgh Steelers have had since Tim Lewis and Kevin Gilbride - Bruce Arians. Todd Haley was recently the Head Coach of the Kansas City Cheifs since 2009. Prior to that he was the Offensive Coordinator for Ken Whisenhunt in Arizona from 2007-08. Todd Haley's father, Dick Haley was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of the 1950's and went on to being an influential personnel director who is often credited with the Steelers draft class of 1974 and most of them between 1971-1990. Here's to hoping that Todd Haley can get the Pittsburgh Steelers Offense to score the points their yardage production suggests that they should.

*** The Steelers finished the 2011 Season with a record of 12-4 and an early exit from the Playoffs as they lost to the Denver Broncos in the Wildcard Round. It was an injury filled the season that saw an Offensive line go game to game with different personnel lineups, franchise Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger playing with broken bones from hands to feet and Running Back Rashard Mendenhall going down to a knee injury. The Steelers battled all year and overcame injuries that most every other team would never have been able to handle. While the loss to Denver was disappointing considering the caliber of team Denver was, the season was one of overcoming adversity. The Steelers certainly did that.

*** Congratulations to BLASTFURNACE58 !!! The NFL Pick-Em's Super Bowl Champion! This is BLASTFURNACE58's 2nd Superbowl title out of 6 Pick-Em Super Bowls, so congratulations to him and his opponent, Papillon for making it all the way to the Super Bowl this year!

*** Stop in at The Steelers Forum to keep up to date on the latest Pittsburgh Steelers news and discussion this Offeseason!

    -------------------

    Random Tips

*** Did you know that you can view a Thread as if it looked like a Blog with all of the "replies" in a text based Tree format like "comments" sections are?Simply choose the "Display" button drop down at the top of the first post in a Thread and you get 3 options : Linear Mode, Hybrid Mode, Threaded Mode. Threaded Mode gives you a list of every post in the Thread at the top of a Thread with a single posts under it like a Blog. You can click on each of the post responses like in a Blog Tree and it'll take you to that Full Post. Hybrid Mode gives you the list at the top but it also shows every Full post underneath it. Linear Mode is the default setting.
