Official Lockout Thread
So, it's looking like the NHL is waiting for the NHLPA to dish out a new proposal...

Re: Official Lockout Thread
This really sucks.
When Baseball season ends I know that Hockey season begins. Out with the old, in with the new. Without Hockey right now it feels like I'[m missing something. It's like a part of the normal routine is missing.
At this point I'm just hoping that the entire season isn't wiped out. If we get a half of a season, that's better than none. It might also make it really interesting to see the battle for the playoffs with fresh players in limited games since hockey IMO is at it's best from January on. February on is when the Playoff teams get determined and the good teams separate themselves from the mediocre and bad teams. The Standard Is The Standard and The Pittsburgh Sports Forum Is The Standard

One of the very few sports writers/media personalities I actually respect in this city put out a solid piece on the entire situation...

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=406835TORONTO -- The NHL's collective bargaining talks have restarted quietly.
An unannounced meeting of the primary negotiators took place at union headquarters in Toronto on Friday, with commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly sitting down with NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr and special counsel Steve Fehr.
Daly confirmed the meeting, but offered no further comment. The sides are expected to touch base by phone over the weekend and set up another negotiating session next week.

Re: Official Lockout Thread
Clearly the NHL has the leverage.
If the lockout cancels the entire season, how many fans will they lose? Some fringe teams fans maybe, but the NHL is a niche league.Write drunk, edit sober - Ernest Hemingway

Re: Official Lockout Thread
And Donald Fehr has finally shown his true colors - He is now threatening owners with the salary cap issue...
According to Yohe and Rossi, Craig Adams had no problem denying it either..."the longer the NHL lockout lasts, the less happy the players will be playing under a salary cap."
http://www.nj.com/rangers/index.ssf/...medium=twitter
Fehr showing disdain for the cap and threatening to get rid of it? Shocking.Adams told me and @RobRossi_Trib recently that retaining the cap was no done deal. Fehr's comments today reinforce that.

Re: Official Lockout Thread
I'm not the type that will leave because of a lockout. I'm too addicted. My dad stopped following baseball after the 90's lockout, but I couldn't walk away if I tried. But with that said, this ****ing BLOWS!. Thank god I watch basketball or else I wouldn't have anything to watch.

Re: Official Lockout Thread
The meatheads at ESPN are pretending to care about hockey during the lockout by televising KHL games - Lev is playing Dynamo on ESPN2 right now.
