The doctors said not to play Ben as I listen to Tomlin on the TV. Tomlin said we and I guess the staff said they decided to bench Ben.

Well, if it wasn't really Ben's decision then isn't this a pointless question actually? Didn't they say that Tomlin told him he couldn't play?

Though i like ryan clarke, how come the same thing wasnt asked about the denver game? When it come to life or death, what we watch is still a game. Even though i just finished swearing at the tv for 3 plus hours.

I do not know how this all went down behind closed doors...but the way it was handled...someone let the team down I do believe.

Ben was "playing" for most of the week and getting most--if not all--the first team snaps and then he doesn't play?

The decision should have been made earlier in order to give more prep time honestly.

As far as I'm concerned it's a good thing Clark didn't start against Denver. Carter had a better game than Clark has had all year in the Broncos game. I'd rather see Carter and Troy back there at this point.

As far as Ben letting the team down, according to NBC, Ben asked Tomlin to start last night and Tomlin said no.

I think the coaching staff has pretty much let down the Steelers more than anything else.

They claimed that Ben was starting to get "practice induced headaches" as the week progressed and that's what eventually led them to the decision to sit him out for this one. I really don't blame them for erring on the side of caution for a guy who just had a concussion and possibly started getting symptoms again from it as the week went on.....if that is the case.

Where do you have this info from? Most every other source said that Dixon was getting the majority of reps since Thursday.

This has become a politicized subject with congressional hearings.

The team did what was in the best interests of the player and the league before the team itself.

You will most likely see a rule about mandatory down time in the future.

    Move on...

Look, I know we all love football but these are lives at stake here. I'm not sure but I think that if it was someone in your family you wouldn't want them playing. Concussions are serious. It's not something to be taken lightly. It would've been dumb to let him play. They made the right decision whether we won, lost or tied.
"He had no teeth, and he was slobbering all over himself. I'm thinking, 'You can have your money back, just get me out of here. Let me go be an accountant." I can't tell you how badly I wanted out of there." Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I do not blame them either for sitting Ben. But it seems like the decision was/could have been made immediately after the KC game--or at least immediately after the diagnosis was made.

Oh and just as a joke here...wouldn't you get "practiced induced headaches" if you had to be coached by BA too?

    My vote is... NO.

The summary seems to be -- he passed the tests early on, headaches started as he was practicing harder, another well-known doctor was called in for advise, he convinced them not to play Ben.

I thought one of the concussion issues is that it really hard to tell what the short/long term affects are going to be? Not like you can predict one day to the next

No one here can say they would have made the decisions any easier. Unless someone on here is a neurological doctor?

No. I'd rather Ben recovered than kill himself. Two words: Mike Webster.
