Steelers activate rookie guard DeCastro
November 26, 2012 5:39 pm
By Ed Bouchette / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The long-awaited debut of rookie guard David DeCastro could come Sunday in Baltimore after the Steelers activated him to their 53-man roster.
DeCastro, their first-round draft choice, was placed on the newly created injured reserve/designated to return list after a knee injury in the third preseason game. He was eligible to return after eight weeks but did not begin practicing until last week.
The Steelers also re-signed offensive lineman John Malecki, placed offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert on injured reserve and released wide receiver David Gilreath, who is possibly headed for their practice squad.
Gilbert has not played since Oct. 11 when he left their game in Tennessee with a serious ankle injury that so far has been determined does not require surgery.
Gilbert is done for the season apparently, Foster is hurt, Colon is hurt, desperate times call for desperation but If this kid isn't right health wise this could be a disaster. Why risk the kid's future for a season that is quickly circling the bowl. I still hold out hope that this team will get healthy and make a run but unless Ben comes back in the next week or two this S%it is OVER.Last edited by _SteeL_CurtaiN_; Nov-26-2012 at 06:02 PM.

Re: Steelers activate DeCastro
I have a feeling it already is over so now it is time to see what our young guys can do so we know what we have heading into the off-season. While the cupboards aren't bare talentwise, the philosophy of not playing younger guys needs to change instead of wasting years 22-26 sitting on the bench behind starters that get old quickly because they didn't become regulars until they were 27 themselves. Young guys get labeled as busts before you really get to see what they can do, or when they get thrown in there due to injury, they're not producing like we think they should because of lack of practice reps.

WHat is god's green earth happened to Willie Colon? all of a sudden he has swelling of the knee during pre game warmups...that doesn't seem too good any news on Willie to report? We need him back for the running game.

It's Willie Colon so it's possible he could be Out for the Season. Not that this is confirmed or anything, just speculating using Willie Colon's historic nature of injuriesThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Give the Big Legursky a week to prepare and we'll be more than fine. I'm more concerned about RT. What's Flozell Adams doing?

Waiting by the phone with his bags packed
Why has our O-Line been hit so hard with injuries the last 4 years? You'd think the injury bug would have moved on by now
