    Default AFC Playoff Scenario

From what I've been reading, several people believe that the Steelers must "win out" in order to make the playoffs. I respectfully disagree with that theory. In fact, I believe that a 9-7 record will earn one AFC team a wild card spot. The problem being, the Steelers can't risk being that 9-7 team because at this point, they would most-likely lose the tie-breaker. Therefore, the Steelers must finish with a 10-6 record in order to assure themselves of a wild card spot.

Obviously that means that the Steelers can afford to lose one more game this season, so long as that loss isn't a second defeat to Baltimore. I believe that another loss to Baltimore would most assuredly be the Steelers demise in any tie-breaker scenario.

I've posted the current AFC wild card contenders below with their current records, remaining schedules, and conference records.

Denver 7-4, KC, Indy, Oak, Phil, KC. 5-3 confernece record.

Jacksonville 6-5, Hou, Mia, Indy, NE, Clev. 5-2 conference record.

Baltimore 6-5, GB, Det, Chi, Pitt, Oak. 6-4 conference record.

Pittsburgh 6-5, Oak, Clev, GB, Balt, Mia. 4-4 conference record.

Miami 5-6, NE, Jac, Tenn, Hou, Pitt, 3-4 conference record.

Tennessee 5-6, Indy, St. Louis, Mia, SD, Sea, 3-6 conference record.

N.Y. Jets 5-6, Buf, TB, Atl, Indy, Cincy, 4-5 conference record.

Houston 5-6, Jac, Sea, St.Louis, Mia, NE 4-5 conference record.

    Here's my take:

Denver will, at the very least, lose to Indy and Philly. That puts them at 10-6 The Steelers at 10-6 would win a 2 team tie breaker over Denver by way of the head to head victory.

Jacksonville: With Houston, Indy, and NE remaining on their schedule, I don't view them as a viable threat to the Steelers wild card chances.

Baltimore, their remaining schedule looks pretty weak besides the Steelers matchup. In my opinion, the Steelers MUST beat Baltimore if they're going to win a wild card spot. I don't want to get too in-depth here but there is one chance that the Steelers can earn a wild card spot EVEN if they lose to Baltimore for a 2nd time this season. If Baltimore, Denver, and Pittsburgh are all 10-6 at seasons end, Denver would lose the tie breaker due to the fact that both Baltimore and Pittsburgh defeated them.

Miami, pretty tough remaining schedule, besides, Pittsburgh controls their own destiny versus the Dolphins.

Tennessee, are they for real? I guess we'll find out with remaining games versus Indy and San Diego. It's also nice knowing that Pittsburgh wins the head to head tie breaker versus the Titans.

New York Jets, remaining games with Atlanta, Indy, Cincy, and an improving Buffalo team will eliminate the Jets from contention in short order.

Houston, this team scares me a bit. With their remaining schedule, they're capable of making a run. If they end up 10-6, who knows what they would do to the tie breaker scenarios? They have New England last but hell, the Patriots may be resting starters in week 17. I won't feel completely comfortable until the Texans lose another game.

Ok, I realize that you are all capable of looking up the aformentioned information but I wanted to post it and get your opinions. I really don't think that the Steelers situation is "all that bad". In fact, I say that the Steelers will be sitting pretty comfortably in about 3 weeks from now. But once again, the next Ravens game is CRUCIAL! A MUST WIN!

The Steelers have to win 4 out of 5 minimim, for any shot to get in. The best one to lose would be Green Bay,their only remaining non-conference game.

GB would be the only game they could lose and still really have a good shot.

Listen, the Steelers are not "out" of it. They haven't been out of it. The only reason people are saying we are is because we've played like absolute **** and lost to teams that we shouldn't have. How can we really say we'll beat Oakland...we cant beat KC!

    Wildcard Best Case Scenario

Steelers win out (11-5) 8-4 conference

Broncos losses to Indy, Philly (11-5) 8-4 conference

Ravens lose to Steelers (10-6) 7-5 conference

Jaguars losses to Indy, NE (9-7) 8-4 conference

Texans losses to NE and pick any 1 (9-7) 6-6 conference

Jets lose to Indy (9-7) 6-6 conference

Dolphins losses to NE, Steelers (8-8) 6-6 conference

Titans losses to Indy, SD (8-8) 4-8 conference

Dolphins, Texans, Jaguars will cancel each other out.
Jets and Titans…2 little 2 late.

Most likely....2 wild cards…between Steelers, Ravens, Broncos.

The Broncos are currently 7-4...that means if they lost to Indy and Philly like you suggested they'd be 10-6 not 11-5. Just sayin.

I see the Ravens finishing 9-7 at the very best! I pretty much downgraded my opinion of those guys after our game with them!

GB is a must win for several reasons. 10 days preparation-if we can't beat GB with that much time to prep and rest we are done ,need to have winning streak going against the ratbirds, and(everybody don your rose colored glasses)we are not eliminated from winning the division yet.we win out and go 11-5,da bungles losing @ minn,@ sd and @ny jets is not to far fetched and they end up 10-6.
