Default Alot of people are down...

On Willie Gay, including myself, but the article on him in the latest issue of Steeler Digest was pretty incredible. To go through the murder-suicide of his mother and step father and then to have his real father die and to not be sure of the real story about that, it is amazing and tragic what he went through and overcame. I am pulling for Gay to become a solid player and to overcome his less than steller season so far.

Sob stories don't make me want to give the guy a position on the field he can't play. Call me a cynic, but that **** belongs on the hallmark Chanel, or lifetime network, not on the field getting toasted like a pop tart every play.

A sob story is I can't make it to work today because I have a flat tire and my spare has a hole in it. Gay lost his parents in a murder-suicide I'd say that falls under TRAGEDY.

I read that story awhile back it is a very sad story. I had forgotten about it though.
So many of these guys came from sad backgrounds. That's one of the reasons I just don't get the ones who can't or won't leave that stuff in the past when they've been given this opportunity and risk it all or give it all up.

It just shows that these guys are more than just players for our favorite team, that they go through **** just like everyone else. To overcome something like that and make it to the highest level in football really speaks to willie's perseverance and hard work.

Gay had his worst game of his short career against the Ravens. I'm not down on him as much as most on here are. It's his first year as a starter. He still has potential and upside to him. At the very least he'll be a good nickel back. He has some playmaking ability in him from what I've seen. Maybe not much but that is still to be determined.

I don't get how so many are ripping this guy apart but Ryan Clark gets a pass from most fans. Clark is a mediocre FS that puts together some highlight reel hits. That's all he does. He's slow, not very good in coverage. Remember, Gay at his age still has at least some potential, Clark is what he is and that won't change at this point in his career, he's a mediocre NFL FS.

Steelers should really address the FS position in the offseason. Maybe draft another CB as well, but there's already two very promising rookie CB's on this team that for some reason don't see the field except on ST's. Townsend is done as a player in this league, even as a nickel back he's a liability out there. Hate to say it but it's true.

I'm down on the guy but it's too early to give up on him.

Maybe the guy needs time to develop. I'm all for suffering through his learning curves. When's the right time to give up on the guy? Who knows, I don't make those decisions.

Same for Sweed. It seems like his window is closed.

If Sweed's "window is closed" then that is beyond retarded. Why this guy isn't seeing the field at least on a handful of plays in beyond me. Just a waste.

Because... Especially at this point... We have no room for error or blown plays.

.... Personally, I don't want to blame him for ****ing-up a game or a drive at this point when everyone counts.... And he cannot be counted on.

Play to win the game. There's enough ****ing up from the starters (Ward and Holmes have both had a number of drops this year, Miller tips a pass for an INT against KC, Wallace hasn't done jack **** for a couple games now), that's just a lame excuse not to play him at least on a few downs in a game. It could help free up the other WR's, change things up against what the defense sees. Maybe even, God forbid, help the Steelers actually score a God **** TD in the redzone.

Just another in a long list of questionable coaching moves by Tomlin and company this season, IMO.

    From a Steelers Team Report:

    • WR Limas Sweed will suit up for the remaining games after the Steelers released veteran Sean McDonald last week. Sweed, though, has played little even though he dressed the past four games as the fourth receiver. [HIGH-LIGHT]He has had one pass thrown toward him in that time with no receptions.[/HIGH-LIGHT] And the band plays on.......

When it comes to the drafted rookies and and undrafted free agents of the past few years I am begining to wonder if Tomlin just isn't good at developing players.

Of all the drafted team members of the past three seasons, Wallace is the only one to see the field a lot in his rookie season.

Wallace and Woodley are the only two who have exceled at this point, with Timmons coming in at a C grade considering it took him to his third season to start and he still blows plays all the time.

Mendy is running good this year.

He was a first round pick.

    He had better.

    Other than those 4....

    Where are the younger players?

Good observation. The thing is I don't think Tomlin puts much emphasis on developing players. When he was first hired, or maybe it was last year, I thought for sure he said something along the lines of "not wanting to disrupt how a player plays the game" or something like that.

I mean how much coaching and development has Wallace really gotten? He's been ready from the get go. He's got great hands and speed but recently it looks like he's hit a wall in terms of development.

Woodley has been hot and cold this year and he does pretty much the same bull rush everytime he rushes the QB this season. He's been inconsistent in the run game.

Timmons sat on the bench his rookie year and didn't play a ton last year.

Ziggy looks like a questionable 1st round pick at this point. I think he'll pan out but for a 1st round pick the Steelers could've gotten LB Rey Maualuga, who's been playing great for the Bengals. That would've solidified the LB corps for the future.

But here we are with a bunch of rookie players and younger guys like Sweed and to a lesser extent, Ziggy, not seeing the field. It's like the Cowher regime all over again. It's stuff like this that makes me think that Tomlin is more of a figurehead right now than a full time head coach.
