    Default Practice Notes

Burnett picked off a pass on the scout team.

Lewis blitzed and knocked down a pass.

Both are starting to become really comfortable in practice.

Lebeau impressed with his young CBs, but still has entire confidence in his starters and veterans.

Lebeau also vehemently defends James Farrior. Says that if you look at his overall game, not the Brian Leonhard and Ray Rice 4th down conversion catches, he has played excellent.

Madison will replace Logan on special teams coverage units. Happy to be back with his brothers. Says it is difficult for rookies to come in and play special teams, in general.

Kemoeatu has went threw two full practices, yesterday and today, with no limitations. He expects to play Sunday.

Polamalu(knee) and Kirscke(calf) once again did not practice.

I am going to have to trust that LeBeau knows what's best for his defense right now. One thing I was wondering is, with the seemingly sudden downturn with the defenses ability to protect 4th quarter, could it be that maybe the players are maybe suffering from some sort of letdown because DL maybe told them privately that this is his last season. To the players, he's more than a coach, he's a father figure.

If anything they'd probably play harder for him if that were true. I don't think that's the case at all, nor do I have a good explanation for why the defense stinks in the 2nd half/4th quarter of games

This brings up something that I completely forgot... When Kemo was out last week I thought Ramon Foster did a pretty **** good job. It's nice that Kemo is coming back but I thought Foster did pretty well

... I would also go as far to say that the entire O-line did a good job last week protecting Dixon.

It's not the amount of points, it's when they gave them up. You never want a guy making his first start to play from behind from the start. Then when they get ahead, you don't want them coming right back. Giving up 4th downs longer than a yard is never acceptable.

With that said, I saw positive things from some of the defense and lots of positives from the offense, which imo is enough to start rock 'n rolling and win out.

I thought so as well. I know many have criticized him that he is too slow to pull. IMO though it looked as if it wasn't really too slow as too hesitant not being sure who to block. Which is something that will come with more experience imo, I could be wrong but I think he played tackle, so this is an entire new concept to him.

I wanna say he was a tackle as well but not really sure. In any regards, he did a pretty solid job coming in and Baltimore isn't exactly an easy team to play against. that defense might be aging and lacking the talent it once had but they are using a lot of similar schemes and stuff that they did when Red Ryan was there, so there's a lot of confusion going on. Foster did well facing that.

It's pretty funny. Actually I think I snorted when I laughed just thinking about this

Last season we had the RickT's and Smartmonies of the internet message board world proclaiming that the Steelers wouldn't either make the playoffs (Rick claiming we'd finish 8-8) or make it to and win the superbowl. The reasoning for this is that the Offensive Line wasn't good enough, it was the weak link in the team, it would get Ben injured etc...

WELL... we finished with a better trecord than 8-8, made it to the Superbowl, won the Superbowl, Ben didn't get injured. Those guys and the ones that *****ed about those same things with them...were wrong..

Fast Forward to this year. I can bet your *** that if I told you that the Steelers after 11 games and you knowing the schedule were 6-5 the first 2 things you'd say would be "has Ben been injured all season?" "The offensive line sucks". When in reality, we're currently out of the playoff picture, facing a weaker schedule than last year and between last year and this year has the Offensive Line not been a single issue for losing. the Line has done a good job this season and has seemed to be just getting stronger and better. Ben got a concussion because he topok off and ran with the ball and went head first instead of leg diving and got kicked in the head.

The irony and actually events sometimes just makes one chuckle. Since the start of last season the #1 concern for the Steelers in most peoples minds was the O-Line. If the Steelers failed it would most likely be because of the O-Line. At this point, we can pretty much rule that completely out of the equation since it's a bunch of other things responsible for a 6-5 record against a weak schedule

    1. I don't think this is DL's last year..he loves what he is doing and can think of no other reason he would want to be doing anything else.

    2. I don't think he would be the type to advertise that this would be his last season even if it was. He doesn't love or want the attention, not that type of dude.

yes and Dixon did a good job of getting rid of the ball on time I think on most of the plays...need to rewatch to verify my remarks but was impressed with Dixon except for the last INT ...in which the DE dropped back. Much the same way flaco got nailed by the colts cept his int was by a LB.
