    Default Ben and leadership

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I checked a page or two and didn't see a similar topic

Anyway, I've been away from the computer a couple days - in Pittsburgh listening to the whole Ben/leader, "Jerome who" **** and I have to suggest that Ben is an idiot.

If you don't agree with Jerome - who is a MEDIA guy at this point, just say you don't agree with him and leave it at that. Doing the whole "Jerome who" thing just shows how immature and lacking of leadership you are. A franchise QB - no, a highly paid franchise QB is expected to be a leader. If Ben's not that, he needs to learn how to fake it.

Especially considering all the bad blood, locker room **** that everyone's discussing lately.

I also heard a lot of talk about how Tomlin's a hands-off guy, in other words he doesn't get involved and expects his staff and players to work it out. This is a recipe for disaster IMO and it can only get worse if we don't have a HC who is willing to step in and tell his players to knock it the **** off.

Man, I really miss being able to listen to all the stuff coming-out daily in Pgh... I haven't heard anything about "Jerome who?", but if it was said, it was wrong IMO...

... As for Tomlin being a "hands off" guy, I'm sure that quite a few successful coaches expect their staff to handle alot of the responsibilities, but he needs to be able to (and willing to) step-in and drop the hammer.

Yeah, somebody made a comparison between Tomlin and Cowher and they described Cowher as being very hands on, even taking on coaching roles like playcalling during times of turmoil. Tomlin's not that kind of guy according to the stuff that I heard.

I'm surprised the "Jerome who" thing didn't get much coverage on the forum - it was all over the news. Jerome said on his sports show that he was in the locker room and the Steelers have no leaders and are completely ****ed, in so many words. Somebody caught Ben on camera and asked him what he thought of the Bus's comments and Ben (twice) said "Jerome who?". Like a dopey kid also, it really didn't make Ben look good and he said that Jerome's not on the team and neither he or the media knows what goes on in the locker room.

Maybe someone has a video clip of that interview, but it was a really ****ty showing by Ben IMO.

Bettis carried Ben on his shoulders his first two years in the league.

One thing is apparent in all of this....

Ben can't take criticism like a man.

I don't hear much coming out of Pittsburgh myself, but if Ben said some **** like "Jerome who?", then I have no respect for him. He can leave town with Brucey as far as I am concerned, if it's true.
How can you disregard Bettis like that and claim he is a friend. You cried after the afcc loss and promised him you'd get him to the Super Bowl if he came back.
Grow up Ben and own the criticism like a man, be part of the solution, not the problem.

    ^ What he said.

Bettis has earned every right to offer a constructive criticism of the team that he was the star of for 11 or 12 years.

He could have been much harsher.

    We all have been.

    One other thing here...

Tomlin and his hands off approach to locker room conflicts.

    WTF????

That **** would never fly with the commander of a military unit.

    You know why?

Because it would cause everyone to be killed in a crushing defeat.

Wow, that's a bit harsh. I dont know about yinz, but I kind of like having Ben as a QB. I might be wrong, but he is a pretty good QB that increases our chances of winning. Last I checked, Jerome Bettis does not give us a chance to win, he is retired...he is a mediot now. Sure, he deserves more respect from Ben (and chances are, Ben was joking and this has been taken out of context), but Im not ready to run Ben out of town for disrespecting Mayor Bettis

Very well said. In my opinion Ben is a big problem on this team...he is just too stubborn.

and then he brings the team back and wins the game...and doing the postgame interview he just did not even seem excited I don't get it do you all. I think Ben is an enigma. It almost looked like it was all planned.

Right now it looks like all your previous anti-Ben posts are complete rubbish even more than when you posted them. Ben won two rings for this team and everyone else was basically along for the ride. And please don't bring up his sub par performance in SB 40. Without Ben they don't even make the playoffs that year let alone get to the SB. 503 and the winning TD ! Suck it Jerome !

I don't know how many "anti-Ben" posts are present, I don't think anyone's suggesting Ben bashing here. It just makes him look bad, childish when he presents himself like this in the media.
