    Default LHP Jay Marshall?

    From Dejan
"A name to watch: Jay Marshall, a left-handed reliever, was designated for assignment by the Athletics, meaning he is likely to go on waivers. The Pirates have the second pick in that chain."
    http://community.post-gazette.com/bl...c/default.aspx

He posted a sweet 14.73 ERA in 10 appearances last season for the A's.

However, he has a career 2.89 ERA in 5 minor league seasons...

Did I mention he is left-handed?

Wow.... that kid looks awful I was looking at his numbers to find some sort of upside and am struggling to find it He's got a low K9 rate, higher-ish BB9 rate. His ERA fluctuates badly from "good/great" to "awful", same with his WHIP. 26 years old, probably dirt cheap, gives up a lot of hits.

I dunno tocchet. I'd be looking at couple long relief arms right now, but that's me. I'd prefer a righty and a lefty for long relief, but long relief in our BP is my biggest concern. The back end of the BP has ..

    1. Hanrahan
    2. Meek
    3. Hart (possibly)
    4. Lopez

    5. Steven Jackson (probably more of a middle relief guy, maybe considered long relief. I dunno)

Leaves 2 BP slots if we go 7 relievers (which i see no reason not to) and long relief guys seem to b the biggest hole. Personally I'd be looking at guys that were once starters that have decent stuff but have trouble in the starting role to fill the long relief void. there's gotta be a lefty and righty out there to do that

Sign him, put a red bow on him, and give him to the Brewers.

I was thiniking that a bottle of napalm or package of Anthrax addressed to Braun and Fielder would be better options

Actually, the whole American League has first dibs on him, before the Pirates have a shot.
